What turbo ?
Hi, Just a quick question.
Whats the better turbo, The ihi vf 23 or the td05 and why? I have a a classic 95 turbo, with lots of mods, 380 injectors front mounted intercooler billett fuel rails bradded fuel lines, front feed the fuel rail first wraped headers inlet spacer (ment to be less heat?) uprated fuel pump (walbro 255) full decated 3inc stainless exhaust, wraped. fuel reg forged pistons ekutech ecu, only been mapped at 289 bhp due to faulty spark plugs and coils, Have since been replaced and am saving for another remap with j g monster. The reason for this question is i dont know what turbo i have and therefore what my max bhp is going to be, the phissical size of the turbo match up to the vf23 but am not sure. I think the turbo inlet is roughthley 3.8 mm may be more. Any advice / Help ??? Please excuse my terrible spelling |
if your turbo inlets 3.8mm mate well done on getting 289bhp :)
|
With it being a 1995 I assume its a WRX? It should have a TD05 already fitted unless its a wagon, then if memory serves me right, it should be a TD04.
TD05 turbo will see your 380 injectors to their limit. I thought 380's were standard fit? IMO TD05 is better than VF23. |
sorry 380 mm,
|
its defently not the standared turbo and all id tags have been removed, Ill try and take some pics and post later on this afternoon.
If any one could help i would be very gratefull, The injectors are the bright yellow, so matbe the 440 cc. I am not really sure, Ive heard so many differant things. |
That an IHI VF ? With a TD05 elbow welded onto it. I'm not that familiar with IHI turbo's so don't know size sorry.
Does JGM not know? He mapped it. |
Yeah, it's an IHI front entry (which VF??, don't know), with some kind of contrived upswept inlet elbow welded on.
As said, the inlet does look like it's been hacked off of a MY93-96 TD05 or TD04... |
thank you for your help, ill just have to wait until my next remap and ill see what bhp is being reached. If i could see the impellers i would be to have more chance of finding out but the whole vf range are all of similar size, if no one can tell just by looking at it then ill just have to see what bhp is produced, would off loved to know just so i could plain for 350 bhp or even more. Ill have to save my pennies, as baby is on way it takes a bit longer to save.

I reckon you'll end up in the 310-330bhp bracket... ;)
|
any one else have any ideas
|
markings def say ihi and as said welded on entry converter. what you get will be a bit dependant, the internal welds on the joint will have a big affect if there not smoothed to allow decent airflow patterns.
i think its gonna be a case of see what you get |
Ok Thank you, Does any one recognise the begging part of the turbo's serial number?
I think it starts with REP5, Does any one else's turbo have this beginning serial number? If so what turbo is it? http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/...4/IMG_0697.jpg |

image doesnt work fella

|
Can any one help me?
|
Where it says turbo spec the model type should be engraved in it,perhaps if you rub where the model type should be with some 1000 wet n dry it might show up
|
What is 1000 wet and dry, ??
|
Its a very fine sand paper used for rubbing back paint,as the numbers are engraved it might clean the surface leaving the model number exsposed.RHF5 is proberbly the number in your picture but im pretty sure thats just a cast number ,whichever one it is being a vf it should be good for 300bhp plus:thumb:
