Pops and bangs uses more fuel??
 

My car was mapped by SC a year ago, and when they did it they managed to make it pop and bangs (not at my request) I must admit i do like it sometimes :p

I tend to need to fill up weekly, and I don't really do alot of mileage, I'm just wondering by the way my car was mapped, could that be why I need to fill up more often, or cos I have more power???

Abit of both tbho mate but pops and bangs does use more fuel yes as its thumping fuel in on over run instead of leaning out.

what milage and what sort of driving, its gonna use fuel but not that much you would notice major as its not load related so just a little bit of extra fuel

As factory your car stops injecting fuel when you lift off the throttle, or coast down hill in gear etc.

Its called overrun shut-off. Its something EFi equipped cars have had since the early 1980's.

"Pops an' Bangs - innit" basically disables that fuel saving feature...so when you lift off the throttle or go down hills, fuel is still being pumped into the engine. The mapper just tweeks the ignition timing so it ignites it in the exhaust....hence the bangs.

In efficiency terms, its essentially like going back to using carburettors to fuel the engine.

So yes, its wasteful on fuel.

My guess, it's more down to your low milage. Are you doing lots of short journeys? That will kill your fuel economy.

My autronics was mapped by SC for extra Pops and Bangs, great for the first 6 weeks and then it starts to grind on ya, lol

The simple solution is to buy an ECU with antilag, you can turn it on & off at will.

When we map in pops and bangs the driver has to slightly breath on the throttle pedal on over run to get the car to do it, not all the time so you do get to decide. is your foot totally off the accelerator pedal when you are getting bangs and pops?

Mine used to go mad when coming off the motorway...(Mapped in by Duncan) and normal overrun pops and bangs the rest of the time...

When I got him to remove the pops and bangs again (was a tad immature :D) the car felt quite boring :D

And the mpg didn't change one bit

I do alot of short journeys, and it pops and bangs most of the time, when it revs about 3-4k revs

A friend of mine had pops and bangs added via PFC commander and with fitting a o2 sensor and knocking pops and bangs off, he moved from 220 miles per tank to 260 miles per tank. similar driving, same routes.

That o2 sensor will be paid for in no time :lol:

Duncan mapped pops and bangs on mine and alot of the time it sounds like full anti lag. There is no difference in mpg before he added them and no difference after. The car had all ready been mapped before he added them btw.

No not really. All you really are doing is putting a small amount of fuel in on over run.
Only really Anti Lag does damage an thats to the turbo.
