power steering
 

hi after my original power steering pump had packed in. i`ve just fitted a replacement second hand pump. filled resevoir and started engine within 30 seconds the power steering fluid was bubbling out the top of the resevoir.
is this normal as the air leaves the system or does it look like i`ve bought a duff pump. also a lot of the fluid leaked onto the block in a place i cant reach without removing PS pump again, will this burn off without any problems?

It will do that if there is still air in the system, With the engine running turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and slowly top up as required, Sometimes only takes 5 minutes but can be a right pain in the backside:thumb: I wouldn't worry too much about the oil you spilled, It will go eventually but if there is alot it wouldn't hurt to give it a quick blast with a steam cleaner or at your local jetwash, Just steer clear of things you obviously wouldn't want to get too wet:D

cheers just been out to try again, managing to slowly get steering from lock to lock without it overflowing. steering wheel is jerking a lot. its better then it was so going to let it cool down then try again.
