does anyone know how much a general piece of land would cost to buy to build a new house on?

also what could be built for about 100K

Not easy buying a smalll piece of land these days and any in a decent area won't be cheap a plot in North Leeds was advertised for a million a couple of years ago.But you do get value for money if you build a house yourself think they reckon you save about 30% on the equivalent bought one. There are self build mags available that give info on plots and plans/kits for houses.

Farm land around us between £6k and £10k an acre.
This is land which is for farming only I dont think you would get any building rights on it.
I think land with building rights granted in a reasonable location would cost 3-4x more.

This will give you an idea of prices in your area.
Any plot with planning permission will set you back a fair bit. If land is for sale without planning permission chances are you wont get planning for it so it's best to avoid it.
However, planning laws are changing, it is becoming easier to get permission to build so a site that has no chance of PP at the moment might be totally different in 5 years time.
What you get for £100k entirely depends on how much of the work you do yourself.
I've almost completed my self build, should be ready to move in by the end of the month (fingers crossed). It's been a very interesting journey, stressful at times but well worth it:)

Land price for building on changes in location. When we bought our fitst house, it was built by a local company who were building in two locations separated by about six miles. Both outside Scunthorpe.

One cost £13,500, the other £11,500.

The difference was land prices, the houses were identical, and, if anything, the dearer house ALSO had the smaller garden.

Up here a plot would cost 80-100,000

Land can cost you anywhere between 1p and £100m, really depends what you are looking for.

I was told once, that it was in thirds, a third for the land, a third for the build, and a third profit. whether that still applies (or ever did), I don't know.
