18 inch alloys. tyre profile

hello

at the min im running 215 35 18's on my classic, this was what the guy had on the car when i brought it 3 years ago, since then ive kept with that size when buying new tyres.. the car has been lowerd 35-40mm since then, and iv'e had no problems with scraping, catching, rubbing etc...

just wondering if i will be able to get away with putting wider tyres on 225,235's maybe, anybody run that spec???

cheers

2254018 would be the size to get , you may need to get the rear arches rolled as they may rub during spirited driving

do they catch bad without being rolled?

thanks

It will also depend on the width of the wheel.

On my old classic I had 17" new age STI wheels on with 225 tyres. It was lowered on coilovers and I never had any problems with rubbing.

Hi Ben

If you fit 225/40/18 tyres the rear arches will need rolling, also the rolling circumferance is too big for a classic so your speedo will be out and it will reduce acceleration a touch.
If you really want to go for a wider size than the 215/35/18s you have fitted now, the size to go for would be 225/35/18. Back in the day this was the only size to use on Classics as 215/35/18 didn't really exist!!

Thanks

I have a similar question. Up til now i've had 215/35/18's but 225/40/18's are alot better value i have adjustable BC coilovers not lowered to much thats not the problem its the rear bumper its closer to. From the rim to the closest point of the arch (rear bumper) is 3inches so i have about 2 maybe 2.5inches max to spare will 225/40/18's fit comfortably or does anyone know what the exact measurement of the profile is? Cheers to anyone that can help. :):):)
