Fit / Sick notes?

Bit of an odd question....

I've never had a sick note before let alone a fit note, but if you needed to provide your employers with a sick/fit note regarding a medical condition, will it give the name of the illness / condition on the note, or just an explanation of the concessions / changes / allowances needing to be made due to symptoms or issues?

Sorry if that doesn't make any sense :lol1:

I've had a quick google and I can't find anywhere if it names and details in the illness, or just the problems the person is suffering.

Recently mine said "chest pain under investigation" and "Anxiety and Depression" when coming off pain killers very badly.

I don't think you need a return to work form anymore, that changed recently. I did last year but not this year.

Boxes doctor can also tick suggesting less hours etc when you return to work

your company will probably want you to post the sick note if you are going to be off for a while

Not sure.

I was ill a while back, and when I was well enough to return to work, but have amended duties, it had a description of the problem and what adaptions were recommended/what I couldn't do. The name of the illness wasn't put down, as at that point it was unknown.

However, when I had minor surgery, I had to have a little time off, and the fit note (stating not fit for work) had the exact reason for my absence.

Sorry that probably doesn't help.

I guess the doctor would be flexible in the sickness reason as long as it was medically accurate

May I ask.... do you not want people in work knowing your illness?

Mine actually states what my problem is - metatarsal osteotomy.
It also states for how long I have to refrain from work.

I'm asking on behalf of a colleague from India who doesn't have a good enough grasp of english lingo to go off and find out for himself in case he gets bamboozled, but no, he doesnt want work to know the illness, just the effects.
