Fog lights

Hi,

New member so just finding my feet.

I have a 2006 Hawkeye and have a question about the fog lights.

My car has fog light covers on the front. I was not sure whether the car had fog lights or not but the switch was in the car and lit up when pushed so I assumed that it did.

I removed the covers and there are fog lights in there which work.

I have a question about fitment though, I mean the lights look pretty poor in there as all the holes for the covers are showing and the lights are pretty far back in the housing. Is it possible that these have been retro fitted? I am not sure how a Hawkeye with fogs is meant to look and whether maybe there are other covers which go in there when using the fog lights?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Firstly, ARE they foglights? Or retrofitted driving lights?

Fogs will have SUBARU on the lenses, driving lights may have Cibie, Hella or PIAA.

What diameter are the lights?

From that I would say they are driving lamps, Cibie rings a bell.

They are not that big, maybe 8cm across.

More likely to be fogs... Subaru didn't like fitting anything expensive. IMHO.

Thanks for the pics.

Mine looks nothing like that, I will tkae some pics at the weekend but it looks like I have some kind of driving lamps.

I have these

What are the ones in the pic above with the proper surround etc?

Tomwrx 08 January 2011 06:40 PM

thats them, once the surround comes off...

the ones in the link above are the exact same as mine.

i have a spare set i keep as they are around 150 per fog light from the stealers

Scooby1975 08 January 2011 08:09 PM

aha ok, so it seems that I am missing the surrounds then and have covers instead.

Do the surrounds clip on and off?

Any idea where I might get the surrounds from?

Tomwrx 08 January 2011 08:17 PM

at the very bottom of the surround theres the smallest gap,

with a screwdriver/knife wrapped so not to scratch anything and it just pops out,

it clips in on 4 parts around the cover, very easy to remove,

a few places on ebay breaking hawkeyes so u might get them from there other than that its the dealers,

i would be interested in the fog covers if u sell them,

Scooby1975 08 January 2011 08:49 PM

So basically they clip on and off the same as my covers.

I wonder why mine has covers on them. Do you think it was an option from the dealer or do you think the car maybe came with both when new?

Tomwrx 08 January 2011 08:54 PM

yes thats it,

either previous owner preferred the cover look,(sti)

or just wanted to protect his lights in the winter depending on the roads they used,

Not a great fan of the fogs as the light looks poor compared to the HIDs.

I do have an HID kit lying about somewhere from a previous car. I suppose I could always get the correct bulbs for the fogs and use the kit to make them HID.
