Things have improved a lot since this happened but totally agree.

Its a shocking incident.

If that is what some people want to see then they need help.

I agree with CP100. The whole idea of motor racing is to see who can win a race through car or driver superiority or a combination of the two. Crashes are bound to happen but that is not the sort of spectacle which we want to see. I think it is right that the emphasis is put on driver safety and always agreed fully with Jackie Stewart's principles with regard to circuit safety.

The video won't run beyond halfway which suits me but I cannot comment on what happened after the crash. I seem to remember that David Purley tried to rescue Roger Williamson. I used to race against David Purley. He was an absolute gentleman both on and off the track, as well as a very fast driver. His action to try to save Williamson is what I would have expected of him. I was sorry to hear of his death later.

wow .. that was difficult to watch

I remember watching that live at the time

I felt helpless and wanted to get up and do something, but obviously couldn't - an awful feeling :(

I was also very angry at the marshalls who didn't even use (or even initially get) the fire extinguishers

Gosh it was a long time ago - how some memories last. :(

Not nice:(

Those were the bad old days http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lies/frown.gif

It isn't for nothing that Jackie Stewart spent almost as long campaigning for better track safety as he did actually racing.

Not a very nice clip at all.:(

There's also an incident which caused the death of Tom Pryce at Kyalami in 1977 due to poor mashalling (also the death of the marshall).
That's not nice to watch either.

such a shame, the only thing the marshalls did do was turn up.
