Anyone help me with this one..?

Just about to buy the Pioneer Navigation system and 7300 display this afternoon. To be installed in an MY02 STi and I am going to have a go myself :)

Has anyone got this kit or similar pioneer stuff installed in their MY01/02 cars, double din socket obviously. I need to know a bit of information about the fitting, any obvious problems, special cages required, does the fit protrude from the dash facia or is it a flush fit etc...

Please help, as I want to order today....

Cheers

Simon

The brackets on the standard double din unit will fit and clamp the new pioneer units together.

Sorry for not replying sooner. Had to go and pick the gear up yesterday afternoon.

Mr Manchester

Thanks for the pics, looks great and also shows that the unit surrounds that come with the units do not go on....

Don't like the look of the dash all out, oh my god, I will have dash rattles forever after doing this... ;)

Since yesterday, I have had a bit of a rethink about the location of the Navi unit, and decided that in the interest of security and discreteness, I think I will be installing it somewhere else, or least out of the dash. So will need a Scoob DIN blanking pocket to fill the gap.

Guy

LOL indeed. Cheeky g1t.... ;)

I'll have a go at anything before spending circa 2-300 quid on installation. I am fairly technically minded so shouldn't have too many scares. Just the dash rattles afterwards :)

Cheers guys

I put my avic 9 out of site and decided on the 7300dvd so that I can leave the navi disk in the avic out of sight.

Was tempted by the double din option, but I think theft is a bigger concern, another reason for not talking about it on the internet perhaps?

Andy

Just a quick note to say thanks for all your help and advice you gave whilst I got this gear in my motor. Couldn;t have done it without you in the end i'd say.

All installed now, took the best part of two days to do :) But worth taking time over I think.

Now, just need to get them god awful speakers out and get some decent ones in ;)

Adam

Yes, I agree, hide away better IMO as well. But I didn't like the blanked off DIN. For security, I am going to have the windows blacked out, Jap STi stylee.. :) Alternatively, if i can come up with a better way of filling the hole, ie. gauges.... then who knows...

Cheers

Thanks again Andy

Simon

Do you have any ECU pinouts for MY99 turbos?

Pretty much all in now and working a treat, with the exception of the 12 disc changer in the boot. Need some MDF for the parcel shelf before I can fix it...

As for performance, the system is really good, I must say that I have been very impressed by the Navi system. It seems to be accurate to within around 5 meters. If I had one gripe, it would be that the 5 meters is in the wrong direction, ie. the woman with the navi instructions comes in a second or so late. So in spririted scooby driving you could miss the intended turn, I have done once now.

Detail is very good indeed, all the roads I have driven on so far have accurately mapped to what is shown on the screen. I have just got back from a 500 mile round trip yesterday from Basingstoke way and I have been impressed all the way.

As far as the rerouting or detour facility goes, I have tried it so far without really reading the manual that came with the system (not had time to read cover to cover). On the M25 on the way back yesterday, I ran into a traffic slow down just approaching the M40 junction on the clockwise road. I decided to hit the detour facility, pressed a few buttons, and it guided me off the M25, onto the M40 and took me home via M40 and then A43 Silverstone to pick up the M1 around Northamption way. Very good I thought.

Also, in-car DVD video is just the business. All the sounds in the right places.

Hope this helps mate, you have mail also.... ;)

Cheers

am having a dilemma about whether to pay someone or not to fit the system.

All of the complicated bit was done already, only thing to add is the navigation box, next to the head unit and run the cables from that to the rest opf the system, which means removing seats, but not much else!

I will have to find the speed pulse wire though, and fit the microphone.

Question is, do I do it myself?

or pay someone else to do it for me?

Do I put navigation in din slot or hide it somewhere like in the boot (miles from the cabling required) or in the glovebox (not far fromt he speed pulse wire!)

chiark 26 April 2002 03:13 PM

How about navigation in the glove box?
