How long has Scoobynet been around for?

When was Scoobynet invented & who are the founders of the idea? How did it all start off :wonder:

Too long?

I'm still waiting for the original CD of archived stuff.
Its taken longer than GT5 to come out.

I have LOL! Anyway I thought the community had spoken ;)

1998 I thought it got off the ground. It used bespoke forum software at first and closed down at one point. I think it's on its third set of owners.

Another early adopter here. Can't say I like the way it has turned out.

My account of how it changed in operational terms goes somewhat like this (someone will have to fill in the dates):

When I was first directed to SN by a fellow Scooby owner: This was all I could get: http://web.archive.org/web/200010082...oobynet.co.uk/

Apparently, SN v1.0 was set up as part of a hobby, for some reason (server funding? ) it died and went offline for period until it was replaced by SN v2.0. Some of the old schoolers will be better informed of what happened then; Shaun, Puff the Magic Wagon etc.

v2.0 was its replacement based on UBB (Ultimate Bulletin board) with Simon and Shaun running the show.

v3.0 was later launched, using vBulletin forum software to replace the defunct UBB software, with Simon and Shaun still at the helm. To handle extra demand servers were upgarded to meet the demand for richer content and larger users base.

v4.0? Well technically its still V3.0, but to mark the transfer of SN to where it is currently v4.0 seem appropriate: Software is still the same (just a newer version and a facelift), but the important change is who is running it; Scoobynet was sold to a commercial media company called Internet Brands (IB), as such, Simon and Shaun bowed out of runnning SN. With Stu taking over as the webmaster on behalf of IB. Part of the transfer and upgrades included new servers run by IB in the USA.
