to do it right, you need to take at least 3 different shots with the camera in the same place, with all the same settings, but just change the light amount. on my canon, when you look through the view finder, you will see the light meter at the bottom, 1st pic a few click darker, 2nd normal, 3rd few clicks brighter.

then go into photoshop etc, and join all 3 together.

or you could cheat and use one pic. you can use a tone mapping program

put a pic up and ill do one for you

yeah as DaOne said you need to take 3 exposure brackets.

i always use +2, 0 and -2 exposures. then convert to HDR, then tonemap. most DSLR cameras will have bracketing......but u gotta use a tripod.

Suberman 12 December 2010 10:56 AM

Loving the Spec C RA. :luvlove:

cheers, not sure it will work on my Canon IXUS 90is?

I understand about the three different pic settings, but if you photoshop one on top of the other how does it 'blend' as if i put a pic on another, the top pic is the one you see and not the one under it. If you follow me :)

very good pix though. makes the cars look really shinny

Ian 12 December 2010 04:09 PM

there is a HDR bit in photo shop, and you can get other programs as well.

post up a single pic and ill have a go

bioforger 12 December 2010 05:14 PM

Photomatix pro is much better than pshops settings imo for this.

Anger 12 December 2010 06:03 PM

Think i might have seen this car last year in Bangkok... how many can there be in Bangkok ?

Great pics mate :)

Nice Hawkeye, but didn't see it at first for the sexy wagon arse :D

Ian 12 December 2010 07:04 PM

had a quick play.

i changed the pic with a hdr type program quite alot, then saved

then changed another copy of it with a hdr program again, but less

but the 2 pics together in ps

and had the ott hdr as the back ground, and the lesser one as the car

what do you think?

photomatix is a little basic and good if you want to use presets, there are several more advanced tonemapping programs out there such as Qtpfsgui.

also to achieve the effect in my photographs i use several photoshop plugins after the tonemapping process to tweak the image.

you should know this..............you yourself say that you are better than me at photoshop..................muppet.
