Diff problems?

Can anyone offer any advice.
I recently bought a 2004 WRX with a driving problem.
When driving, the wheels are grabbing and when stationary, in neutral, with the handbrake off the vehicle feels like the brakes are binding on.
Having removed the rear diff assembly this feels ok, and the front end seems to be free. I am having trouble diagnosing the problem and wonder if anyone else has experienced this or may know the problem?

Thanks
Neil

Decided to strip out the rear diff and have a look. Found the sun and planet gears seized up!!

I read what you are saying but the symtoms you describe are exactly what happens when the centre diff is U/S just as Dunx says.

Hi i have a question about my front diff ? its on a 94 type-ra and when its cold it clunks a few times when on lock but after driving for about 1/4 mile or so its fine on full lock both ways ????

Would it be the diff or something else

Thanks, John

That is not abnormal for your car. Just accept it needs to warm up to perform normally. If it doesn't get worse you have no problem.
