I wouldn't attend anyway, because I'm firmly against the tuition fees, but firmly for the protests/riots. The government / establishment need a firm kick up the bottocks, and the students seem to be the only group willing to deliver it.

I agree with the policy of making the student pay for their education as they get the benefit, but i also think that the rioting is the politicians own fault as some else said earlier you can get a million plus people to march and still be ignored so what other option do you have on single issue matters you cant wait 5 years for a general election

I wonder if most people complaining about the rioting are complaining because they support the increase in fees.

what if it was the protests were about doubling the cost of petrol to raise more tax revenue would we be out on the streets rioting because be certain about one thing if we just marched down the road nothing would change look at how they banned Fox Hunting and took us to war in Iraq for proof.

I actually can't be bothered wading into the actual argument of the protests and if, buts, whys and maybes of it all. What I would say is that is highlights a salient point;

You can't trust the government, especially the turncoat Lib Dems. Would there have been protests if Nick Clegg hadn't completed a U-turn on policy? Probably but I bet it wouldn't have been half as bad.

All for the riots as long as its someone else doing it....

However, you completely missed my point. The government don't give a damn what anyone thinks apart from when it's election time (at which point it's fair to lie to get more votes), and they need a wake up call that you can't just ignore what people think without consequences.

Does anyone know what it will actually SAVE government in not paying fees? I don't think it's a huge amount in the overall scheme of things, perhaps a year's worth of spending in Afghanistan killing UK's best.

25% won't pay much and a big percentage won't pay anything for a variety of reasons including going overseas.

I think it's wrong to load kids up with a £30k+ debt. Maybe £10k - 15k max, enough to discourage a lot of kids going to uni "for the sake of it".

When I was around that age I was considered "well rounded" enough to be in charge of a fully armed military aircraft and to be able to use it effectively in a war situation. I had to be able to find a correct target, avoid being shot down, and know how to avoid committing friendly fire against our own side for that matter.

Why are you attempting to make excuses for a bunch of thugs who are prepared to use violence and destructive force at aorund that sort of age. They have no excuse whatsoever for the shameful actions that they are carrying out. They are supposed to be intelligent enough for a University place for heavens sake!
