japspeed intercooler.... good or bad
i see japspeed are doing 25% off and wondering if anyone has tried there front mount intercoolers and are they any good as generally you get what you pay for so do they do what it says on the tin or should i avoid? says they will handle 600 bhp is this realistic? any comments appreciated :)

i bought one, haven't put it on but it looks like good quality, paid just over £200 on group buy for mine and i was not disappointed

you need to give us some info on your car because if i was to post a picture of the intercooler fitted to my car and you don't have the same year or model it can be misleading or result in you buying the wrong one, as for montioring air temps and comparison to a hybrid i cant help you on that although im sure sure many people have used both types and had good responses from both. |
I have a japspeed FMIC fitted. Pipe fitment is good, but not perfect. The drivers side pipe needed a bit more of the bumper trimming than I'd originally hoped and the DV flange is in an awkward space for larger DVs such as the turbosmart or GFB ranges. Temps are good, better than my oversized TMIC which was better than the standard WRX TMIC. In the summer I was seeing inlet temps of approx 20 degrees on a run.
As for fitment pics, I'll sort some out tonight when I get home, I can't find my project thread that showed the fitting. |
I once purchased a FMIC of ebay for £120 new & after installing, mapping etc the car felt very sluggish. Changed it to a Hybrid & made a huge difference in acceleration.
The Japspeed is up for a good price & if the reviews come back good i will happily purchase one. Any info on PSI drop & temps would be great. |
They were featured in a magazine recently, they fitted one to a Hawkeye and it gained about 14bhp without a map so they sound ok. I wish I had got one instead of my HDi one which was a bitch to fit.

er...stupid question time...what's a hybrid? assume its something inbetween tmic and fmic...cant picture what it would look like though.

P.S What splitter is that? HT Autos splitter:D The only other thing with the Japspeed FMIC is you need to remove the foglights to run the pipework, and cut away foglight housing. |

Ye thats true aswell as i noticed that on my type r after i chopped a few pipes.
Dont like the sound of £700 though :eek: The cheapest & with best fitment i have seen is the Gimmick FMIC over in the states but that also comes in at almost £500+ shipped to UK. |

I recently bought a second hand APS DR525 FMIC and looking at the fitting instructions and the quality of the kits, it looks like it'll fit like a dream. :)
But as has already been said it's the price which is a killer on the APS and Perrin FMIC's, luckily I picked mine up at a price too good to miss. ;) |
