Dolce Gusto Coffee Maker which one
 

After my thread last week about the nespresso maker I think I have decided on a dolce gusto but which model do I need.

Melody 2 or Ciricolo is there a big difference apart from the design?

There seems to be different model numbers for the Melody. Amazon and Currys both have different numbers how can I tell which one is newer.

Main difference I believe is water capacity

I got a Dolce Gusto machine for my Xmas present from the wife last year. Love it, and I've used it a lot this year :D
One tip, if the price isn't too different, order the machine direct from Dolce Gusto as you get loads of reward points which you can redeem with them for pods.

We've got one, no idea what model it is. It's round. Makes a damned good coffee. :)

Do you use it for other drinks too?
How do you control how much water is used for a drink, just press and hold or is it measured?

I can't decide if it need the melody or piccolo, the piccolo takes 0.6 litres the melody is about 1.2 litres of water.

The water control is manual. Chocolate lovely (if I'm bribing the missus for sexy-time I may even go wild and put some marshmellows on the top), cappucino's good, too, and tastier, imo, than Costa et. al. The fancy layers impresses guests. I've learnt to heat the glasses with some bolied water first, otherwise it can be warm rather than hot. Still fill the cafetiere occasionally but it's nice having the option to do a straight coffee, hot chocolate, espresso and a cappucino in a few minutes without too much cocking about.

I've been working on a review of our Morphy Richards slow-cooker; will post later. Miele vacuums are excellent. ;)

I bought a Krups last week from Amazon when it was down to £55.... quality bit of kit.

I think i will go for the melody for the price difference.

I had a tefal quick cup and the drinks were only warm not really hot like a kettle.

Is this going to be the same. Can you drink then straight away or are they to hot. Hopefully to hot.

They're not scalding hot no, the temperature of the water never reaches boiling point. I usually leave mine for a couple of mins at most for lattes etc. Lungo coffees etc that don't have milk last longer ;)

Cool nice one. I'm torn between the 2. How long does it take to be ready from filling? And if you leave them on, I assume it's always read to "vend"
I would not use it much just can't decide if the capability of making more drinks in one hit which would rarely be needed is worth the extra 10-15 quid and extra space. Decisions decisions lol

Then there are the accessories, I can see this getting expensive lol.

I can't think of a more damning indictment of our societies decadence than these coffee makers.

A quick glance at Amazon suggests that the supermarkets are cheaper for the pods.

We've got one of the older style ones that looks a bit like an alien dog sitting down. The hot choccy is lovely. :thumb:

Takes about 30 seconds from being switched on to ready to start the coffee creation.
Usually I fill up the reservoir, switch it on and go get my pods out the cupboard, by the time I get back the machine is ready.
You can't leave it on all the time though, it switches itself off after 5mins of inactivity ;)

I also have a Krupps machine.

Got mine last night and love it already. Just need to get the cups now so I can measure it all properly. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to lol.
Made the free hot chocolate that comes with it, but ended up a little watery. But just made a latte macchiano or something and that was spot on!
Now to put an order in on the dolce site and see how many cups and glasses I can get for free lol.

Had my old model Dolce Gusto for 2 years, use it every day and love it :) The coffee is every bit as good as the bean to cup machine at work, but they may just use cheapo beans :D

I went out and bought a few boxes of pods tonight. Quite disappointed with the chocolate, but must say the coffee is good, but being a non coffee drinker my endorsement does not count for much lol.

Pleased with it though. Only moan is measuring the water, seems it's easier done in the Dolce cups, which I will end up getting lol.

You must be making the chocolate wrong, ours is feckin' lovely! Try a bit of hot milk in the cup first, using slightly less water and topping up with squirty cream. Marshmellows on top will almost guarantee you oral pleasure from your better half. :thumb:

Lol clearly I am doing it wrong, there was me using what was sold to me as hot chocolate in the pods and it turns out I need to be a drinks chef lol.

Still working on how I get the right measure of water without faffing about.

Just ordered one off Amazon.

Out of stock though until at least after Chrimbo week.

Lol all depends on your taste mate. For my unrefined taste buds, it's bliss.
I like mine though, still just trying to figure out how to measure the water.

Having said that I only drink black coffee, none of those other funny coffee's
