Just Joined and would like advice.
Good Evening, just joined the forum after a couple of weeks of snooping around. I'm not yet the owner of a Subaru but i'm hoping to change that in the coming future.
First quetsion is which is the best Impreza to go for with a Budget of £5000??? Second question, what do you think of this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220695188218&ssPageNam e=STRK:: Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can give me. :notworthy:notworthy:notworthy |
i take it you want a new age?
for that money you could get a very tidy classic. |
bit dear if you ask me? for what you can get this day and age? you'd get a wrx with prodrive pack (PPP) fitted. the 1 you've posted is 1 of the first newage's released. not bucket seats, real basic. you'd want to get 51 onwards with lower mileage, bucket seats & prodrive pack fitted, possibly with a few mods too all for under 5k
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2256017.htm thats not a bad buy,, they usually hold good money as there limited number. really nice. but 5k would be sti money if you ask me. have a browse through pistonheads.. theres plenty of wrx's for less than 5k, with lower mileage too;) |
I'd be happy with any age. Just want (like everybody else) a nice well look after Impreza.
My only real requirement is the ability to get 300 Usable BHP. |

not bad at that money, think with a little haggling that could be had for around the 5k mark? |
|
I would go down the Sti route mate because it has the potential to go 300bhp and beyond as soon as they leave the factory. I will cost a few £k to achieve those figures with a wrx! Where about's in the country are you and how far are you willing to travel for the right car?
|
welcome mate, i agree with everyone else mate try go down the sti route if you can, there are also some good subaru dealers abt that are worth lookin at and you will get a warenty, where you from.
|
I'm in Burnley and will travel up to 50miles
|
Classic STI type R :)
|
Well that would shorten the pool of cars to choose from as it's such a short radius. I personally would avoid flebay and keep a open in the for sale sections on here, Sidc and pistonheads & autotrader. The closer you get to Xmas the better chance of a bargain from a private sale. Just make sure it has full service history and dont just buy the first car you see! Take your time and choose wisely:)

and it says 265bhp with the prodrive i can promise you it wont be it will more than likely be running 235 - 240bhp Ps i would extend your radius ur willing to travel i would most certainly travel the uk for the right car:thumb: |
as said above get an sti to start with
6 speed box, brembo brakes, stronger engine, better interior etc etc easy to get to 300bhp with more or less just a remap and possible exhaust although you will probably start thinking 400bhp as the car is far more capable to get a wrx to 300bhp you will have to change exhaust, possible up pipe, turbo, injectors so by the time you have shelled out for that you will reaslise you should have gone down the sti route to start with i live in north manchester and have an sti (which is up for sale but not in your price range) if you want to come and have a look and see exactly why they are better than the wrx just give me a shout via pm |

Its all about shopping around, there is for example, this>>> http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2233895.htm though you would need to go and inspect it, the STI's are a much better starting place than the WRX (stronger or bigger everything ;)) or you could just go and join your local subaru club www.ladsoc.co.uk and see if there is anything for sale on there ;)
Tony:D |
I would also go have a look at this one ;)

Obviously check all the service history is upto date and ties in with the mot's. Also insist that the car IS NOT warmed up at all before your arrival, that way you can listen for any rattles and you can also check that it starts up with out problem. Please note that this engine will have forged pistons and will produce a slight piston slap noise until warm due to the cold weather. There is a website that can show you all the mot history for the car (i believe it's Vosa) and would be a good idea to scribble down all the dates and mileages just so you can make sure it all matches the paper mot's and that it aint altered. Insure that the car drives straight and true and that there is no nkocks and bangs from the shocks. You can check each shock by lifting up the plastic cover and feeling for excessive wet grease that that may have been sprayed on as a cheap and temp fix to cover knock.
I am sure others will add more:) P.s check the date of the hpi and if it's longer than 4-6 months i would re-check, infact get it checked anyway:) |
have a chat with razor wrx who posted the add it belongs to his friend who is a car dealer.
does look a nice tidy car though, good luck with it. |
Gearboxes can feel a little stiff/notchy when cold, should be pretty good when warmed up though, as said rear shocks, but generally these ones are pretty reliable, just dont go the decat route without remapping ;) and a health check at a dealer wont cost you much either :)
Tony:) |
Absolutely brilliant Gentlemen. Thanks for the advice.
