engine replacement

hi just looking for a bit of advice really, i have a version 1 sti with closed deck block. head gasket has gone and also a head is cracked, i have removed engine to make it easier for me to work on. contemplating just buying a replacement lump to drop in and then building myself up slowly a forged engine out of my old one. but have been bitten unfortunatly in the past when buying second hand engines, would prefer a recon unit or something however being on the close side to christmas i dont have thousands and thousands to chuck at it but it is my pride and joy and would like some pice of mind. anyone able to point me in the right direction of a good supplier thank you

Id buy one off here mate, there is bound to be someone selling and most are very trust worthy on here,it would be daft imho to buy a recon when your going to build yourself a forged lump to go in:thumb:

thanks very much for the info ill check out prices from api. i see your point (prodriverules) ill see what i can source off here, the only thing i was thinking is its going to take me some time and raiding the piggy bank to sort out my forged lump so didnt want to end up back in the same boat as i am at the moment a couple of months down the line. thanks for your help

are you jokin? this forum was plagued with scammers not so long ago.
id buy a run around and rebuild properly. you will have a closed deck block engine there possibly with the forged pistons.
