dccd what do the different stages on the dash mean ?

been into imprezas for a long while now andf have juast bought a type r sti with dccd, not had chance to drive properly yet as it needs some work, and would like to know exactly what percentage of drive am getting at each one of the stages on the dial and also is it safe, advisable to change while driving. the diff lock am guessing should not be used unless on loose surface or the snow were having at the min, any replys or answers would be appreciated thanks in advance.

I found this http://www.driveperformance.subaru.c.../blueprint.asp very helpful to understand the DCCD system.

But the best thing of all has been the snow, tried all the different settings today and combined with the background info from the above webpage I think I now understand it better and how best to use it.

Just look in the technical archive, a very good conversion from japanese on how it works.
