Gaining access to dials in a Classic
How exactly do I gain access to the dials in my classic? I've been told that the aftermarket dial faces have been fitted and the needles put back on wrong which is why they are not showing the correct speeds, so need to gain access. Do I have to take off the whole dash for this?

No mate.
Drop steering wheel to it's lowest. You CAN then remove the shrouds round it, two screws from underneath, but it can be done, with difficulty, with them in place. Two screws in the upper part of the trim inside the binnacle, mine need a stubby to remove them. Work the upper trim out of the gap. Once that bit is out, there are three more screws, two lower, one upper, holding the instruments in place. Pull them forwards, releasethe wiring and the speedo cable and work instruments out. Hint: decent magnetic driver useful here, less likley to drop screw down into dash;) If it were me, I'd put all new illumination bulbs in while the clocks are out, there are about 5, W5W. |
