97/98 ECU
is there any way of mapping the ecu of these years other than changing the ECU for an aftermarket one???
Would one off another year work ie a 96 ECU or a 99 ECU??? Or is there a way of changing the enternals? :thumb: |
If youve got a 97/98 ecu they cant be mapped and are 3 plug the 94/96 are 4 plug. Ive got a 98 sti and there is no cheap way around it except an aftermarket ecu. I went for simtek, supplied and fitted for just over 1k.

is there not a way of piggy backing the system???
I heard a MINE ecu would work or an ESL board, but i have know idea what these are?? |
mines is a jap ecu not for uk cars. esl dont do an ecu for 97 cars at the moment.

sorry my car is a jap import .is it worth looking into getting one (MINE)
Also is it worth checking my ECU to see what type it is? |
mines ecu are designed for japanese 100 ron fuel and as such are pretty aggressively mapped. they are not really suitable. Yes, if you can check what ecu you have we can give you alternatives, but some older ecus can be very hard to find and when you do they tend to be a bit more expensive.

could i fit this in my car I know it still cant be mapped but would it be an improvment |
It can be done,
There were a few options, Mines Various jap add on boards PE phase 1 GGR done one for the 22b and the other 97/98 models. They were all add on boards, with a remapped chip. More complicated than the earlier ones though. I doubt you will find anyone to do this for you now, best bet is to find a good used standalone ecu and have it mapped by someone who knows their stuff. Good luck |
