You also have a choice of going up to Scoobyclinic up off M1 - Pat is based there few days each week as it's not far from where you are.

I can second bob rawle, he does travel too. He mapped my p1 last week to 420bhp. The man knows his stuff !!!

Just wondering if a mobile mapper travels to you how do they mapp the car do they have a mobile rolling road or something I know this sounds strange to adk but it's fooled me on how they do it

petedotuk 17 November 2010 06:11 AM

You drive on the road as they map, with the Simtek its easier as you dont have to pull over and turn off the ignition to flash the ecu. If you need to put the engine under load at a certain speed you use the brakes but this very seldom happens.

Jolly Green Monster 17 November 2010 08:33 AM

Car gets a check up, and a number of items fitted - wideband to check fuelling, detcans to check for engine knock, laptop, feel like setting up for an operation.
Install ecu and load a base map and then we drive the car gently to warm it up and build up to full throttle.
Speed is kept as low as possible and no holding car on brakes when I do map, thats unnecessary imho
Also try and explain as we go what we are doing.
Some people love it, some hate it.
Or bring car to a dyno.

You will love it, it becomes addictive after a couple of go's :D

Tidgy 17 November 2010 09:22 AM

midlands has a plethera of mappers, personal choice is scoobyclinic. Also i wouldn;t go simtek, but thats a whole different can of worms lol

Really...never? ;) ....I love taking mine down to Surrey Rolling Road (nearest to me) as it really annoys Charlie cause the backside keeps jumping off!! :D

subaru slim 17 November 2010 10:42 AM

I just hear some people saying that a car should br mapped on a rolling road to get an Accurate bhp figure and set up

Jolly Green Monster 17 November 2010 10:46 AM

road and roller mapping is another can of worms.

I am happy doing either but do feel the combination of them both works best.
However you have to keep in mind that the car lives on the road.. so tuning for optimum and max power on the rolling road usually makes a crap road car.. it needs to be tailored and setup bearing in mind the difference between the two environments, with the road in mind.

imho

Simon do you do OS mapping?

Jolly Green Monster 20 November 2010 12:17 AM

no EcuTek

Sabas 20 November 2010 11:37 AM

Simon has done mine a few times now, getting some bits together now for the next stage !

I keep Reading about open source mapping, what is this, what is the difference between this and the normal way of mapping?

I think, if you have a 400-500 bhp car, mapping it on the dyno then getting it checked on the road is just safer, as you are reaching high speeds quicker

Jolly Green Monster 20 November 2010 11:48 AM

The standard ecu on 2001 on can be mapped using open source software downloaded off the net or ecutek software developed by ecutek and sold through the ecutek dealer network.

The arguement has been argued many times, os mappers will tell you it is as good and ecutek mappers will tell you it is better.
The most well know and established and experianced mappers in the uk all use ecutek
