Can-Bus?
 

Thinking of getting a new head unit as std radio sucks, I'm electronically and technically very able, just never done much with cars and have never heard of a can-bus.

Possible head unit says:

N.B This unit requires a speed pulse connection to operate correctly. Please ensure it is installed by a professional or a CAN-BUS interface is used.

Does a 57 Hawk WRX have a CAN-BUS? How can I tell?

hi mate the car won't have can-bus for the headunit, but sounds like the unit have is satnav?, the speed pulse is for the unit to tell the sat nav a better postion as well as the gps

what can-bus is 2 wire that carry a lot of info for ecu's, now a can-bus interface allows things to be conected to it to read info from the car, we use them when fitting alams, so the alarm will do things like lock doors flash indicators such like,

on your car you should be able to pick up a speed pulse at the ecu,

a vehicle speed sense will pule from 0v ~ 5v when car is moving the faster you go the faster it pulse,

try to get a pin out and look for vehicle speed sense/pulse,

Yeah the unit has a built in sat-nav, all singing all dancing :)

Im guessing it will be a pain to install then if I have to draw straight from the ECU?

And I have a Aftermarket alarm/tracker fitted, so may need to see how that was wired together?

Think this would have an effect later on if I fit an aftermarket ECU?

And this is looking more and more like I'll need a professional install :/
