how easy is it to sell on ebay.. advice/tips please
 

I bought off ebay ok... and have a paypal account.. using my CreditCard.
But have never old anything on there.

How do you do it?

I've read the HOW TO on ebay but it doesn't make it clear to me how payments are made to ebay for their fees... and how does the payment come to me as I only have my credit card listed with paypal.

Can anyone expalin how the payments work... in plain English please.



also any other tips you can give... as I have warhammer/games workshop game I'd like to try and sell on there :)

You enter your paypal details, as do all other users and go from there. It really is that simple

My transactions come off out credit card, but as the paypal account is pretty flush that isn't needed.

When it comes to selling things, just be honest with a good specific description.

kool, so even though I only use CC with paypal, anyone who buys from me, the money gets help on PayPal. then i can transfer it into a current account bank account when i want?

If you have 'funds' in paypal, will ebay take that first before charging via the credit card?

You can transfer most of it into a current account - but don't be fooled, Ebay take a fair chunk of the selling price for themselves, and PayPal (which they own, and which you're forced to accept) take another.

I've stopped dealing with Ebay completely; I'd rather go to a car boot sale and take payment in magic beans :(

I've had one bad experience selling on ebay because the buyer was a foreign ****wit who didn't understand that I wasn't willing to ship outside the UK. Well that ruined my 100% good feedback!

Gumtree is good, no fees and no fuss if you are honest! I have bought and sold loads on it and got exactly want I wanted cost wise when selling.

Yes, they do. Ditto if you buy anything.

When you list stuff, there is a scale of charges, the amount depending on little things like start price, reserve price, buy-it-now option, P&P or free, (some items will only be listed as free P&P), etc.

Then it's 10% of the sale price, but there is an upper limit on that and it's sliding scale after a certain sale price.

Basically you list and sell the stuff and e-bay send you a message with charges on it about a month later. AFAIK, they DON'T take the money off you without your say-so, unlike banks:mad:

You can expect around 20-25% of the sold price to be eaten up in fees in most cases.

Listing fees, selling fees and then paypal fees.

They then have the cheek to set maximum postage restrictions which sometimes is nowhere near enough especially if youre posting recorded/special delivery.

I was posting an expensive coat, they allowed me to charge a maximum of £4. Postage, packaging and then special delivery cost around double that. Eats even more into profits.

I dont know how some small businesses survive on ebay, it hardly seems worthwhile at times.

You get charged again for putting a reserve on, the same with 'buy it now'.

I tend to wait until free listing days, but the things I know will sell are set up as scheduled and auto list 3 days apart. I don't really bother selling things on there unless there is a good chance they will sell. It's just not worth it.

I only put a reserve on specialist items where there may only be one bidder. Stops me giving it away.

My best ebay tip.....................lots of good photo's, and use a TRIPOD. Nothing worse than blurry pictures.

I've given up selling anything that will fetch less than £10. I've sold a number of DVDs for less than £1 and it costs more than that to take it to the post office, never mind the time packing it up etc.
