iPhone4 + Tesco?

I had a 3GS on O2 that I switched about 2 weeks ago to tesco. On the 3GS next to the signal it changed from O2-Uk to Tesco.

I've now got a iPhone4 and not having a micro sim I trimmed down the tesco one (I was a nervous wreak but I managed it :lol1: ) but now on the iPhone 4 it says O2-UK again? All the cellular data etc is set up to the correct tesco settings and I can make and receive calls ok?
I know Tesco use the O2 network but I'm just confused as to why the '4' doesn't display Tesco next to the signal?

Has anyone else got a 4 on The tesco network?

Plug it into iTunes it might download carrier settings.

Neanderthal 07 November 2010 03:26 PM

You were right, it did have an update for carrier settings which I downloaded and installed but it still says O2.
Oh well never mind lol

Ant 07 November 2010 03:37 PM

another thread saying 4.1 puts it on.

Ahh it's not 4.1 (unlock issues ;) )

If you preserve your basement you can :)

Mine says Tesco. But it did initially say O2.

Ohhh I was unaware of this! Thanking you :D :thumb:

Right, run the jailbreak (limera1n) and it says it worked. Yet I don't have Cydia installed?
Tried Greenpois0n but that just fails.

Ditto

banny sti 09 November 2010 01:16 PM

Tesco is part of O2 anyway ;)

Neanderthal 09 November 2010 01:17 PM

Yep, it's been on and off more time than Ashley Cole's boxers!

edit, came home, tried it again and the bl00dy thing worked first time?
Must have been something on the work PC blocking it?

I updated my iphone 4 about a month ago via iTunes and my o2 changed to tesco and the same happened when I updated my wifes iPhone :thumb:

Neanderthal 12 November 2010 11:14 AM

Update, I've installed 4.1, jailbroken etc etc. It's unlocked and working fine but still says O2 (doesn't say there's a carrier update available). Had to enter the WAP settings manually but to be honest I'm happier it saying O2 than TESCO :lol1:

JackClark 12 November 2010 11:18 AM

As it's jailbroken you can get it to say pretty much what you want.

Neanderthal 12 November 2010 11:38 AM

You can? I'm not bothered about the usual things people jailbreak for (using copied apps etc) All I wanted it for was to disable the carrier lock.
edit: Done! :thumb: thanks Jack!

JackClark 12 November 2010 11:50 AM

As it's an O2 phone you can get it officially unlocked, simple and free and saves pissing around every update.

Ant 12 November 2010 01:33 PM

They're not unlocking the iPhone 4 yet, well wasn't when I last checked .

JackClark 12 November 2010 02:48 PM

Ah! Didn't know that!! That sucks, I won't be buying a a phone on contract again then.

Ant 12 November 2010 03:21 PM

It was a tactic to stop people selling them for big money on ebay

Neanderthal 12 November 2010 03:48 PM

The one I have was from Vodafone.

Didn't stop me buying 3 in the Apple store. I didn't sell them for big money though, passed on to friends.

Ant 12 November 2010 04:09 PM

It maybe be availble to do now it's been released in Asia.or apple told o2 to wait so it doesn't affect sales. Who knows.

I got my 3G Unlocked through o2 very easy :D

Neanderthal 12 November 2010 04:49 PM

O2 unlocked my 3GS with consummate ease, not like all this jailbraking, rainsn0w stuff that only works if your modem version is the correct number malarkey!

HELP!
After my unlocking success on my own phone a mate asked me to do his.
Worked fine, although he didn't like it so wanted to reset it back to how it was.
I found the 'reset iPhone' option in the settings on the phone, clicked it, accepted that it would wipe everything etc etc
Now it just gets stuck on the apple logo screen.
I've read every 'tip' online, about holding down the power and home button whilst plugged in and iTunes running. Yes it does say "phone needs to be restored" but everytime it fails with the 'unknown error (2002)" :(

I don't have a happy mate at the moment!
Have I bricked it? what will happen if he takes it to a Genius Bar?

Thanks Ant. I followed that youtube video. Had to hold my finger on the home button for 30 mins! but it went through more than it had done before.
Then iTunes said it can't complete the restore due to error 1004 so a quick search and now it's ok (I think, he took my phone with his sim card so at the moment his phone is sitting here wanting to be activated, but he's on orange and I'm on O2/Tesco so I can't do it with my sim :( )

Glad you sorted it :thumb:
