Blackberry OS 6.0 now available for the 9700

Anyone out there with a 9700 and wanting to know if OS 6 is worth it.... Hell yeah it is! Lol

I'm like a kid with a new toy right now. Well worth the upgrade.

I'm glad I held out and didn't bother with the Torch now.

dpb 03 November 2010 12:21 AM

pearl as well ?

Snazy 03 November 2010 12:22 AM

Na the leak is only for the 9700 at the month. Not sure if the Pearl will ever see it.

Rah, I take that back. How did I miss that!
Well done

dpb 03 November 2010 12:52 AM

I was actually counting on you Snazy for being the blackberry forum expert ,

- i see we might have to review your pay :D

Snazy 03 November 2010 01:03 AM

Haha I hate the Pearl almost as much as the Storm!
But I still feel I failed you lol

OS 6 is great :)

davyboy 03 November 2010 09:07 AM

I will take a look, but I would have thought it runs a little slow due to processor speed.

STi wanna Subaru 03 November 2010 09:48 AM

Downloaded it. Going to see how other people get on before I update. need to make sure Telmap Navigator runs Ok on OS6

Snazy 03 November 2010 11:19 AM

Ru Ning beautifully on mine, full install and restore leaves 70mb free, as oppose to 83 that was left with my apps on too.
All my apps, berry weather, berry buzz, tube maps, etc all working fine.
Occasions momentary stutter when you have 10+ chats open with a few browser pages too.
The universal search is superb, the multiple home screens are little confusing, as for social feeds. Very nice indeed, well thought out.

All in all, running fine little different to what most berry users are used to,but worth the upgrade.

Is telmap a paid product? If not I will install it and let you know.

Puff The Magic Wagon! 03 November 2010 11:34 AM

?Where can I get the update for the 9700? please

davyboy 03 November 2010 11:36 AM

I tell you what, this is great!

My 9800 is now a paper weight.

Will do mate, anything in particular you want checking?

STi wanna Subaru 03 November 2010 12:02 PM

Just does it run. does it pick up your GPS etc. It's a really useful Sat Nav for me which I'd hate to be without.

Snazy 03 November 2010 12:04 PM

Ok starting download now, ran into a small issue, but will let you know the outcome.

STi wanna Subaru 03 November 2010 12:08 PM

On OS5 TelMap didn't like predictive text so I had to disable that. It's a known bug. May be something you encounter.

cheers for the help.

BuRR 03 November 2010 12:14 PM

I read there are still some issues, particularly with third-party apps. Ubertwitter, for example.

this is the only reason I've been holding off. I assume the leak was vendor-neutral, Snazy?

Leaked beta OS from a source other that BlackBerry? you must be mad :cuckoo:

That said, Ive done it in the past! its the sort of thing you only regret when things go wrong. I remember doing my iPhone to IOS4 while it was still dev release and had a hell of a time trying to roll it back to something workable.

The leak has a vendor file which as norm you just delete before installing.
The Twitter app i have works fine, and integrates perfectly with social feeds.

Snazy 03 November 2010 12:27 PM

Ok, installation not completing. Seems to complete but when you go to open the app it's not having it. Will try again in a bit.

STi wanna Subaru 03 November 2010 12:35 PM

Cheers Snazy. I had an issue running Telmap last night as it happens on OS5 .979

Message of synchronizing resources...please wait. It hung like that for ages. I just had to exit in the end. Left it like that later when I got home and it did load but after how long I'm not sure. may be an issue their side as it connects to their servers I presume.

If it failed I could always go back to my 9800, or roll it back....or even put my hand in my drawer and pull out another 9700.

No danger.

Puff The Magic Wagon! 03 November 2010 01:10 PM

Lush :D

Only problem is that I cannot get my network connections working - missing APN?

Phone is a Voda 9700 (unlocked) with an O2 Sim on a BES

Where to get my operator settings from?

The source is RIM, just not officially onto the carriers. RIM dont release OS's to the consumer, they release them to the networks. The networks take their own sweet time rolling them out, if they bother at all.

Its a genuine release so to speak, just not intended to go direct from RIM to consumer.

Aaaah that might explain it then. Has it worked since last night? That might be why it wont connect at the mo. Thats the only issue with it for now.
