I don't understand the need?
I'm running Xbox live with no issues and my laptop on a Virgin 10mb connection?

Makes the 2Mb I get on ADSL seem like something out of the dark ages. Wish we were in a cabled up area :(

stereoscopic versions are really small but a proper blueray 3d is anything from 70- 150gig

yep Newzbin is king or NBZmatrix, but i work in IT so i leech alot from MSDN too, can beat 5.9mb a sec from newzbin.

Rool on 100mb wonder how much more they want

Benifits of Virgin is typically the Ping rate.

ADSL has alot of overhead thus you normally will get 120 to 210 pings, if your close to the exchange then sub 100s depending on the game.

Virgin however as its fibre normally knocks 50MS off ya Ping times,

The size of the service wont effect ya games, unless your heavily contented with people who leech alot.

ADSL has a greater contention thus can be worse.

I currently have both in my house due to work commitments BT ADSL business and 50mb Virgin.

If your a gamer go Virgin FIBRE not adsl.

A good starting point for Virgin would be to get their basic internet connection sorted out first before they try increased speeds, we have none stop internet going offline for hours at a time while they apparently do repairs in the area.

We had a modem replaced on friday which gave up the ghost, the internet had been offline for 36 hours. Then at 11pm last night the internet went off again and didn't come back on until 11am this morning, thats a fairly regular occurance. Its a lottery as to whether the internet will be working when you switch in your pc.

In 3 years of being a customer I've only had one day where it's been down.

I guess it comes down to the area that you live in, Virgin took over NTL so we probably have a load of old NTL cable and equipment that needs upgrading in the area. The modem that we had previously which packed up was a 7 year old NTL box, the Virgin guy said they are obsolete now and he replaced it with one of the tiny black virgin modems.

I'm in Cheshire btw

Do they come on more than one disc then when you buy them? A Blu-ray disc can hold 25Gb on a single layer or 50Gb on a dual layer.

chrisowe 31 October 2010 02:05 PM

I've been with Virgin for nearly 2 years. I've never had any downtime.

Littleted 31 October 2010 02:11 PM

only downtime ive had is when the scumbags actually targeted the Leeds HuB, and all of leeds went off for 24hours

Ant 31 October 2010 02:16 PM

I've only seen bluray 3d rips at 50gb

Its a download so no disks and played on a media player :D I borrowed Iceage 3d from a mate and copied it into a folder and it took up 75gig.

Forget 100mb. How about 10gb:

http://www.telecompetitor.com/more-i...xg-pon2-trial/

Probably wont see that for BB in my lifetime - at least not in the UK :)

stevebt 31 October 2010 11:27 PM

10gb line would be mental :D What pi55es me off about 50mb is that altough its great for top speeds on newsgroups most of the time while browsing I still feel like I'm on 56k :(

StickyMicky 31 October 2010 11:36 PM

Cant get any cable/fibre at this address :(

BT told me i would never ever get more than 4mb down on this line.

Be* have sorted me out a treat though :)

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1012007466.png

None of that poncy traffic shaping, and it runs this speed 99% of the time whenever i test it (couple of times it dropped to 4mb down lol)

Although i still get ****ing ******* double posts on SN :cuckoo:
