overheating
Cars overheating! Again!
Radiator changed less than a year ago, fans are coming on when gets too hot but doesn't cool it down... Doesn't seem to get any hotter than 100-101 degrees though?? Blowers inside car also working fine. Am puzzled??? |
Thermostat jammed, or water pump mot working and the water is not circulating and just boiling.
Both the above are timing belt off iirc.. Heaters would still work to a certain extent... |
bottom rad hose cold or cool when hot? sounds like a circulation prob.
|
Will have to check the hose... Is it straight forward enough to check pump and therno?
Might be unrelated but car seems to be idling alittle odd... Reckon could be related? |

How do I remove thermo? Does anyone know of a step by step guide?
Anyway of checking pump is okay? Thanks guys |
i had the same problem this week and its the water pump thats has gone on mine. and its idling a bit high as well
|
Were they related? So are both fixed now pump changed?
|
the stat is at the end of the pipe that comes from the r/h side/bottom of the rad, 2 bolts to remove the housing and hey presto thats your stat just pull it out sometimes can be stiff but it`ll come.
|
Would a malfunctioning water pump, or indeed any circulation problem, cause problems when the car is idling, seems to be revving to about 2k on cold start which is much higher than usual, and it wasnt that cold at 9.45am this morning!

How difficult is it to remove the water pump to check it out?
Or is there a way to check its working/not working without removing it? |

Back to my earlier question... Would a malfunctioning water pump or thermo, or indeed any circulation problem, cause problems when the car is idling?
Or is this a second problem i've now developed? |
Yes a circulation problem (either airflow to rads or coolant) will cause issues even when the car is idling.
When my car developed an overheating problem earlier this year, it was because the radiator and AC rad were clogged with dirt. The thermostat is fairly easy to get to, test it. |
Yea, the thermo is No.1 on the list to check
... just wanted to make sure that the 2 problems were linked |
Well... wasnt expecting this to be the problem?!
Had her in bits today trying to find out whats the cause of the over heating and it seems to be that the two hoses that go into and out of the heater box in the dash werent taking water in??? So disconnect the two hoses an re-routed the water missing out the heater box and hey presto, no over heating and no dodgy idling... albeit no heat coming out the blowers, but I guess things could've been worse. Can anyone give an explanation why this might be happening? I was behind the dash the other day trying to fix an annoying squeak, may have knocked one of the wires leading to the heater controls??? |
Internally fubar'd or blocked heater matrix?
