New TV... Which one though?

Fancy a new TV as mines a 28" monster from the nineties, weighes a tonne, looks like ****e and barely works.

But which one should I go for?

Want atleast 40 inches worth, decent brand (none of this "Teknika" lark)... not so fussed about it being the best of the best, but must be HD for my xbox though.

Any recommendations?

Wanting to spend no more than £500'ish

Tidgy 25 October 2010 01:01 PM

sony or panasonic, (same screen with different software)

timmyajmy93wrx 25 October 2010 01:05 PM

42" panasonic viera plasma mate, TX-P42G10 this is what i got & what hifi highly rate it. got it for £585 with a free 5 yr warranty through M&S but that was a special offer but abit of googling & reading of what hifi etc you should grab a bargain somewhere.
LCD though if you have a bright room but plasma is a great picture especially on my ps3 & sky HD stuff etc. :D

M4RKG 25 October 2010 01:12 PM

The rooms pretty dark and i'm mostly after best picture quality... so problies a plasma then

Will take a look at the viera :thumb:

i don't find the picture on my panny as sharp as the picture on my samsung for some reason. the panny picture always looks very "soft" for some reason.

M4RKG 25 October 2010 01:30 PM

Does anyone rate the sony bravia's?

The 40" seems to go for around the £430 mark

bigredrob 25 October 2010 01:32 PM

panasonic viera,

Wha?:lol1: I think thats bull****.

The Philips 42PFL5405 is hard to beat at the moment for a great looking full HD LCD with 100hz. I think its one of the nicest TV's without busting the bank account.

Panny viera,

no contest really

I purchased a philips 42'' (42PFL5603D) and was that impressed I bought another for my other room (man room) :D works a treat with my ps3 and virgin HD

I paid more than £500.00 for mine, but their is another variant going for £499 at some retailers now.

Can't disagree with that but I think they are like Mondeos. Sometimes you wanna buy something with a bit more spunk like a Caterham.

I got a Panasonic 50" G20 and a Bluray recorder for £1200.

Sold the recorder for £400, sold my old 42PX70 for £200 (way too cheap) so the upgrade only cost me £600 :)

a 6' 4" tinted chap with a cock on him like a baby's arm holding an apple.

Go look at Avforums - and particularly issues with Panasonic plasmas. Also consider the LG 50PK350 (for the 50" one - I presume smaller models are numbered like 42PK350 .... but check!) they get good write ups.

P*xy double posts! You can tell it's happening as when you hit 'post' it waits for ages before the (double) post comes up! Never happens on other forums .....

Its a distinctly average looking TV and is pretty much boring looking with HD content although they seem to be pretty bullet proof.

+1

For the Panasonic Viera Plasma, ive been more than happy with my 42 inch Viera. The picture and colours are stunning.

Didn't Panasonic buy the rights to Pioneer's technology ? Pioneer used to be the market leaders in plasmas.

you must at all times remain PC. Even when you have your feet up drinking a beers while your wife/gf gets rifled by 2 big tinted chaps ;)

I have a Panny plasma and a Samsung LCD, both fantastic but for some reason the Sam seems sharper... but the Panny appears to have more depth.

Can't whack a Panny

Leslie 26 October 2010 11:10 AM

Pannies are very good, and a plasma screen will give you the best picture with the most natural colours.
