modding book?

does anyone know if there is a book/manual other reading material about scooby modding? There is great advice on this site, but a book covering what can be done, should be done and how would be the nuts.

cheers

Nope couldn't find that one sorry (although did find another non-free one for £31.31).

Only one I found to share is one that appears to be USA based and not sure how good it is, but here it is anyway:

There's no such book, and there probably never will be a good one. You only have to look at the mistakes in some of the "reference" books already available for the Impreza to realise one of the potential problems.

One reason for that is because the base cars are different year on year (and from one market/one country's traffic laws to another), and because there's no one simple "best way to modify an Impreza". It's a complex subject which depends as much on the customer's requirements and budget as anything else. With variables that big, it's very difficult to write something that would be coherent, relevant and correct for a wide enough reader base to make it worth publishing.

There's also the dilemma any publisher would have to consider nowadays: Is it worth spending the money paying an author (or authors) and going through the publishing costs where there are other ways potential readers can get the same or better information.

The bottom line is that there are other ways - not least sites like this, and a good chat with a tuner being among the best. On SN of course you do sometimes have to separate the wheat from the chaff, but again, books are often wrong too.

Firstly, thanks to stiwrxv7 for the reply. As I mentioned in my question, you can always get good advice here on particular issues. Sure mods depend on budget and needs etc, and you can always speak to a good tuner. I was more after something that gives a chance to see the wider picture, when do you need a catch tank, what effect do arbs have, why are lightweight wheels important etc. Once you have a better idea of these basic things then you can start asking the right questions. At the moment I don't even know what questions to ask. Count me in for a book bat.

Oh god, how do you justify buying such a publication when all you (Splitpin) say is correct (as per btw :thumb:).
For me it is pure 'interest' and as i think Dan is saying, it may raise questions/points that i would not think of asking/clarifying with out a prompt. I would never attempt a performance mod with out first consulting a trusted 'knowledge' source first, or at least throwing the idea open for comments. Hence the main reason for the 'group buy stylee' purchase, it will not be a bible and as has been pointed out will, by no means be comprehensive, so will not be worth the £30+ price tag. As long as that is understood by all conserned then i can't see any problems.

Once again Splitpin, thanks for even more grounded sensible advice. You know it is always inwardly digested and appreciated.;)

Thanks to the three that have chipped in. I'll PM you all tomorrow and get it ordered.:thumb:

Any more for any more??:)
