Getting hot when stopped

Hi,

My bro's MY03 STi Type UK has developed its first issue it seems. When stopped at the lights, coolant temps start rising. Nothing coming out of exhaust, no coolant level drops, everything looks fine in that regard. S.E.C.S. is saying CT reached 112'c. When he is driving with air flow, all temps return to normal.

Sounds like it is a fan problem or something. Any idea what we should be looking for ?

Cheers for any info.

Richie.

whether the fans are plugged in and working would be a good start. :thumb:

try the the thermostat first and bleeing the system and yeah check to se whn the fan kicks in at what temp as they should kick in around 91c ish

Thermostat if sticking shut would cause it to over heat within minutes, whether stood still or not.
Thermostat if stuck open would cause it to run cool 90% of the time and possibly get up to proper temperature in traffic..

Basically it can't be the thermostat..

No point in arsing about with bleeding and thermostats if the fans are not working.

Connecting the 2 green test wires will/should bring the fans on, just to make sure they are servicable.

If they come on with the test wires, disconnect and leave it to tick over for a bit (not unsupervised obviously), and see if the fans are coming in.
