ebay - stupid bid - do I close my account ?

Chasing a new PC motherboard I put a foolish maximum bid on an item... :(

Can I avoid buying the item, (if I happen to win) by closing my account ?

Any advice other than, think hard before doing something stoopid ? :brickwall

If you do it before the end the seller has no recourse ..
