MONDEO ST 3.0 V6

thinking of getting rid of the subaru and getting the above and wondered what ppl thought of the st on a 04 plate not the old one, only reason i am thinking of doing this is the insurance is going up to neare £1200 next year and a st is only £500 for me.

Myles 17 October 2010 04:35 PM

Why is the insurance going up? My mate had one and it was ....ok.

john banks 17 October 2010 04:37 PM

Nice noise, needs revving or you'll be better in a diesel though with cheaper costs.

i like them and have owned one a lot off ex scooby owners are going for the 220ps diesal st or titanium thinking myself about one have you tried a plan or keith michaels mines 750 a year bad postcodes northwest :(

Bigbob3000 17 October 2010 05:04 PM

I had one, real rep. car :D.
Arround town, short trips, like the scoob, not good mpg.
Then on a motorway, long trips home from London to Cornwall, and trips to see my bro in Pompy. It bearly reaches 500 rpm at 70mph, and at a steady pace, fuel lasts for ages.
If i was looking to get rid of the scoob, i would go for something like this, and the insurance was really cheap, and im only 26 with 6 points...:thumb:

NEILB1 17 October 2010 06:01 PM

STi wanna Subaru 17 October 2010 06:11 PM

Do a search. Saxo Boy did a great write up on his. I have the TDCI ST and it's a nice car but with a few common Ford faults. nearly 600 miles to a tank though helps

im looking at a titanium or ghia x what mpg are you getting motorway driving towards a wrx scoob just looked at a 06 one on ebay 1000 no reserve at 1100 with a day to go

STi wanna Subaru 17 October 2010 06:35 PM

last tank which was a mix of driving I got 45mpg. Motorway I'd guess at 50+. They are good cars but seem to have some common faults. injectors being the main worry, EGR valve will fail and dual mass flywheel. Although like anything reading up online tends to only highlight negative views

yeh ive been also looking at a 03 one had the flywheel done but still making a noise they suggested tensioner but for 800 squid its cheap

STi wanna Subaru 17 October 2010 06:49 PM

on the pre facelift models the pulley and tensioner etc were a known fault. There's a technical bulletin about them apparently. stdrivers forum has a fair it of info if you want do do more research.

Search user name Saxo Boy and ST220....if you have any further questions on them then let me know :)

NEILB1 17 October 2010 09:41 PM

blolody good read up you have done there fella and i am now after a st thanks

LG John 17 October 2010 11:27 PM

I've already converted someone else on the forum as well :) They are great value for money cars to be fair. My average MPG over the life of the car is now up to 27mpg as I do more mixed driving now as opposed to all around town when I first got it. And believe me, I boot it.

Fantom 18 October 2010 01:26 PM

Saxo it was me that you converted :) Although it was the car really ;)

My average mpg is 22.4 but I do a short journey to and from work and don't do many long journeys at all.
I'd definitely recommend one, they are great. Can't really see what more you could expect from a car for the money they cost.

Matteeboy 18 October 2010 08:27 PM

They seem VERY thirsty for their relatively modest performance.

They look good, handle well and sound decent but most seem to get low 20s for a mere 222bhp and pretty mid level acceleration figures.

Jimbob 18 October 2010 08:30 PM

Neil go back to what you know fella!! ;)
