where to stay in yorkshire dales

Some help please fellow scobbynetters..

The Mrs and I have decided we would like to spend a weekend in the dales..... Take the scooby up, bit of leisure driving :-) tourist attraction, bit of walking blah blah then back to a nice hotel/bb with stricly no chavs or screaming kids.

can anyone recomend a nice place to go and stay (£50per person per nite tops)?

Thanks

The only placed I have ever stayed in Yorkshire is the Mallion Spout in the village they used to film Heartbeat (Goathland).

Dunno if it's in the dales, or how much it costs, but it was chav/kid-free. I checked in around 12:30 and it was peaceful. I had a quick stroll around the village and went back to the bar.

And they kept the bar open until I went to bed. :thumb:

Dales is a big place....

But if you want to stop near Forest of Bowland,i have stopped at Gibbon Bridge hotel. Its really nice, and excellent dining.

If you want a bit further North then Appleby manor is a nice country house hotel, has huge grounds

Not checked on prices, but both do good midweek deals and it maybe worth paying a little extra to make your trip memorable.

Nothing worse then making the effort to get out and about and being let down by accomodation.

As said, it's a pretty big place! :D

Skipton and Leyburn are two of the bigger places, Leyburn being mores 'Dales' and Skipton is more touristy...the castle is quite cool though and I know a cracking place for pork pies! Hawes seems quite popular too.

The road from Ingleton to Hawes, Leyburn etc is a must. From Hawes you can do Buttertubs. Up around Serbergh is nice too and you'll probs see some fast jets on those routes too.

I found a cracking route from Kirkby Lonsdale to Dent recently. There's an awesome run up to Brough too...in fact the A66 is quite a nice run, not unlike Route 66 in places :)

Have fun :D

Oh yeah, you'll get good accommodation in Skipton, Hawes, Leyburn, Richmond and there are facilities there too though things obviously do get sparse the more remote you go.

:)

thanks,

we're thinking of Ingleton, anyone recomend somewhere nice to stay there?

I stayed here ( http://www.hello-yorkshire.co.uk/scar-close-farm-feizor ) earlier this year. Nice and quiet with really nice folk. About 15 minutes from Ingleton.

Near Ingelton

Hi

If you want to stay near Ingleton I'd recommend High Bentham, much nicer than Ingeton and only 10 mins away (5 in a Scooby :-))

The best place to stay by far is the Coach House Inn http://www.thecoachhousebentham.co.uk, trad pub with real fires and really nice old beams in the rooms. The food is really good as well - we stayed for the weekend dinner bed and breakfast and only paid £60 per night for the 2 of us. The staff were really lovely, nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was fab - real good quality sausage and bacon, none of your cheap rubbish. We're going back in January for 4 days, defo recommend if you want somewhere not too expensive but really nice to stay.

high bentham is rubbish. stay in ingleton, or better still settle, grassington

roads onto ingleton, chapel le dale, horton in ribblesdale etc are made for scooby's.

I know, because I live in gods own country.

oh- Haworth's nice too. not exactly dales like yr thinking though.

Tan Hill Pub is worth the extra...

IMHO

P.S. Murker is way scary like some BBC2 comedy, some right characters out there...
