Newbie looking to get a UK STI

Hi guys after some advice after selling my 3000GT in may i've been on the lookout for a subaru sti UK spec, preferably a 53 reg blob eye, i've been advised to look out for whether the rear shocks have been replaced, has the maf ever gone down and if the turbo has ever been replaced as these are common faults, what else are common on these to go and what do you think of these three i'm looking at:

any advice would be much appreciated, my budget is around 7-8k, so the first 2 are within price range, apart from the last one.

regards

Vijay

Hi mate,

I think the rear shock problem is only MY05+, although I may be wrong! The other two I've never heard of as common faults tbh! As long as you stick to well serviced low miles (and may even higher miles) and a passionate seller then I don't think you can go wrong.

Nope, the rear shock problem is very much on the MY03 cars. I should know I had three sets under warranty on mine. Only fixed it when they were replaced by aftermarket items.

The fact it was still an issue on the 05s shows more evidence of Subaru not being prepared to admit a fault with their vehicles. 2.5 engines anyone?

To the OP, why do you wnat a UK STI... JDM gives you a lot more for your money.

the rear shocks went on my 01 wrx and have gone again i thing dam things

Shocks are common on the blobs, even the bugs, then check for any usual wear and tear, wheel bearings can go, gearboxes can have issues with the selectors as the UK cars have cheap n nasty plastic bit in there, still fairly cheap to fix, turbo's are normally very reliable, clutches can be an issue with abuse (like any car really), but keep looking, for an MY03 car 7k should be tops to pay, for 9k your looking at an MY05 car and those are a better buy as they are facelifted interior, fllare over the rear arch and the Spec C geometry setup, wider track (plus A-DCCD), or just go JDM, similar or sometimes cheaper insurance, better spec, better engines etc.

Tony:)

http://pistonheads.com/sales/2116442.htm - this one is near to me as i'm from Heathrow, so only 30mins drive away and seems in good nick

If it's nearby, won't hurt to go and have look, make sure it's spot on for 8k,but the milage for that car is pretty low, make sure he has the paperwork to for the ppp, good luck. :thumb:

Hi guys after owning a 3000GT for 3years or so i've a bagged myself a bargain, this is a picture of my old car:

I went to see this car on Sunday with the assistance of Ben from http://www.euro-spec2000.co.uk/ who inspected the car, made sure everything as it should be, When i had my 3000GT i used the that garage in Guildford, they tune and service all types of jap cars, so it was good to have somebody that knew about these cars. I picked the car up on Tuesday for 7k cash, its has all the documents to prove the prodrive, cat1, tracker, mileage inc service book and service history, so got myself a bargain! Heres a few pictures!

Cheers mate, my old car was a 3.0 twin turbo, was std, and producing 285bhp with 320lbs of torque, havent had this dyno'd yet, but as this alot lighter had it weighed today at 1520kg and should be hitting 300bhp or so asit's a prodrive model, it does shift alot quicker than the 3000GT, but got to get use to it, as the gears run out alot quicker!
