Outer CV joint boot

Seems the outer CV joint boot on my '02 wagon passenger side has split. It's pretty recent (most likely happened during the balljoint replacement in August) and I don't believe there are any other problems (worn CV joint), but how would I tell?

So what is needed to replace it? I see some kits on ebay that are pretty cheap for the cv joint, boot and other parts. Do I need them all? Or can I just replace the boot itself?

Finally any tips on how to do it.

round corners on de - acceleration it would feel rattly, or rather like a vibration with a slight noise as well, if all feels smooth throughout the rev range slowing down and also slowly accelerating then all is ok, or should be, just replace the unit itself, or while your there replace anything else that you think you should.

Fairly easy, wheel off, brake caliper off [tie it up somewhere to protect the lines] remove the disk brake usually by knocking it from behind carefully and all the way around, then the master bolt in the middle. Thats how I did it, and thats how I have done a transit van and also 306, however yours may be different matey. give it a shot

If the gator has split and grease is being lost then the chances are it's been contaminated with dirt etc.. to save changing the boot and then later changing the joint itself i would just do both at once

As Imprezabob says. would be yoru best option

I just changed my front left outer cv joint this weekend took about 1hr 30mins to do. Would advise a second per of hands to help with some of it but they are quite easy to do.

what model is yours? and year?
