Newbie who hasnt got a scoobie!!!
Hi Guys
Would appreciate your comments and advice etc but thought I would give you some background. I have a porsche 911 (996 carerra 2) which ive had for 3 years. During winter I buy a second car and hide porsche away. Normally buy something of a teenage kick (something I couldnt own/afford 10 years ago!). Never been a scoobie fan, and have to say, think styling and build quality not even close to german rivals, but have to say, u gotta love the way they go!!!! http://i824.photobucket.com/albums/z...obie/photo.jpg Bought this in edinburgh, wanted a faclifted one and cheapest I could see, 72k miles, prodrive alloys with new potenzas, sti intercooler, bailey dump valve and sti rear exhaust. FSH with cambelt done at 49k. Has a few dimples and bumps etc but one the whole pretty good. Getting a surprising 28mpg on super. Had a sticking caliper so stripped to find only 1 piston working on one side, so cleaned up and seem ok now. Thinking about a set of winter wheels/tyres so appreciate some comments on that, also if anyone knew the car (Sk03ZMX) at all (serviced at Penicuik). Think the car is a good spec but really not much clue (sorry) but can say its one of the best handling cars ive ever driven! Appreciate ANY comments! |
Welcome along ate:thumb: Car looks nice.

Welcome to SN mate.:thumb:
Good choice for the winter. Only a couple of little bit of advice. Get the Bailey D/V off and replace with OE item. Nothing to do with the 'chav' stigma. Plain and simple, they are cr@p and prone to fail whiuch will cause you no end of problems. And 'learn' to drive it before the white stuff arrives. They are AWD but can still get wrong footed in certain situations. ;) |
Hello and welcome mate.
When you say it's an sti exhaust...it doesn't have Prodrive on it does it? With it having an sti intercooler, can you see and blue or red hosing near the intercooler? If so, you may have a PPP version which would be a bonus. If your current wheels are in good condition, winter ones might be an idea unless you just keep the current ones clean. How does it compare to the 911? Enjoy! |
The profile of it looks like the Prodrive back box.. The standard STI backbox has more of a slant.
As Richie says..you may have a PPP'd WRX, or even a tweeked ecutek'd one. |
thanks for all the replies, im such an amateur, yes it got prodrive stamped on exhaust, and does have a red hose connecting to intercooler so please advise what this does and what performance it is,
Wheels are pretty good so agree need some winter ones, as for the 911, the 2 cant be compaired really as totally different beasts. I got a tip tronic as well so impreza a serious drivers car compared so it. Impreza much better handling, but of course 911 has no lag (no replacement for displacement)! |
PPP'd WRX was 260 odd iirc
(PPP was a performance pack by Prodrive, a warrantied upgrade (£1600 from dealer I remember)) Greater bhp, increased torque and much improved mid range punch. The STI intercooler was not part of this kit however, which make me wonder if it's had an Ecutek map at some point. |
heres another 2 pics, look forward to comments

yep, STI PPP exhaust and STI intercooler by the look of it... Samco pipe not Prodrive so it's pointing to either a standard WRX with STI intercooler and PPP rear silencer, OR the above but with a remap to take advantage of the better charged air cooling the STI intercooler provides... The backbox does not breath any different to the standard unit, but sounds better.
Further investigation might be required. Call the dealer network and see if it's had the PPP fitted to start with (they keep records of such modifications) If no... then you could be sat on a 240bhp WRX. or a 280bhp re-mapped WRX... no way of telling apart from a rolling rd. |
I dont think its a ppp, also note the intercooler has the water spray connection but its not connected to anything.
|
Seems to be just how my car was mate.
I've got a MY05 WRX wagon with PPP. Got the Prodrive backbox but got an sti intercooler at a later date so haven't got the connection to the water spray either. Even though you've got the Prodrive backbox, you might still have the cats in place....think there are 3????...so getting rid of them would help the car breathe a bit better! :) |
thanks guys, not too fussed for getting bhp readouts, it just feels quick and im happy. Still looking for winter wheels/tyres????
