Import VIN Numbers.

Just a quicky.

On the early imports with the 9 digit VIN, where the numbers sequential?

ie GC8-000001 was the 1st built, 000002 the 2nd built and so on(you get the idea).

Or was it just a random selection?

Thanx.

I think all the numbers mean some thing... whether its a WRX, STi, Typre R, RA and whether its manual or auto, saloon or wagon

This might help=

VIN:

1. Series code G = Impreza S = Forester B = Legacy etc.

2. Body type F = Wagon C = Sedan

3. Engine type 8 = 2.0L Turbo

4. Year code A = MY93 B = MY94 C = MY95 & 96 D = MY97 (facelift) E = MY98 F = MY99 G = MY00

5. Number of doors 2 = 2 door coupe 4 = 4 door saloon 5 = 5 door wagon/hatch

6. Model type 7 = RA 8 = WRX type E = STi D = STi Type R & RA S = 22B

7. Transmission D = 5 Speed Manual AWD P = 4 Speed Automatic AWD

Thanks lads, but no. You are thinking of the 'Applied Model' code. I am talking VIN numbers. The imports have a 9 digit VIN as opposed to a UK/EU 17 digit number.;)

Tony or gc8 are probably your best bet!

He's talking about the 6 digit build numbers.

For instance, I think mine is 011421 and is a '93 car. So I'm assuming that its the 11,421st classic shape Impreza built. I'm guessing the 1.8s and 2.0 sports etc are on the same build numbering.

You got i rossboy, mine is also MY93 (March) and is 006033. Quite a difference between the two in the same year :wonder:.

Someone will know, as g7prs says, there are favorites to reply. :)

Its not a big gap at all if it includes all the non-WRX imprezas aswell. They were being churned out in Japan by the thousands. I seem to remember mine is October, though I've no evidence of that anywhere. It would tie in with the gap though.
