Need advice on automatic impreza
 

I am looking at an automatic, for health reasons. I saw one yesterday and test drove it. It had a rebuilt engine. My husband and I both own manuals and were surprised, yesterday, not only by the noise, possibly just the exhaust, manifold or engine, but also by the slow pick up. The turbo felt like it kicked in at about 4 1/2. Is this normal?

Can anyone give us any advice on purchasing an automatic?

It has forge pistons fitted, reground crank, catolitic converter.

What would you expect to pay for a 1994 import, in red, automatic with rebuilt engine?

I think ive seen this car on Ebay, a red saloon in Dorset?

I think the spool problem lies in the turbo. Auto's came with a smaller turbo, the car in the advert has a TD05 which he says was swapped from a TD04....not even a mention of an ecu swap or a remap.....obviously, thats if it is the car ive seen.

i suppose the turbo kicks in about 3,500-4,500 rpm,did it have a sports mode on gearbox,sounds ok but be a bit scepticle about a reground crank as most engine builders on here never regrind the crank on these incase they fail,the loudness should be down to a after market exhaust,find out when engine was rebuilt and why a new crank wasnt used..............id say ifd it is in mint condition 1800-2500 depending on history and how many owners its had.

also the boost might be turned down if he is still runing engine in,i had same with escort rs turbo,wouldnt boost much till i had look at actuator on turbo and it had been turned down due to engine bieng run in,adjusted the actusator and it was fine.

A standard turbo forester XT - boost starts at around 2700 rpm for an auto, and is not slow at all. :-)

Hi there i have bugeye WRX with 4EAT(which is automatic)and turbo(TD04) spool around 2700rpm.

Sorry but something not quite right there :wonder:, i have worked on 3 x wrx auto 's in the last 6 months ,and yes as standard they should have a td04 on.The one my mate picked up last week is original and still restricted to 112 mph ,however it starts to spool up really early (2400 rpm) :luxhello:,but runs out of puff later on:(.Car is much more responsive if you use the 'power' mode or change up manually.
Regarding fitting a td05,you need to make sure that they have not just bolted it on and left the original 3B/4B ecu in there :nono:, as the car will run but not very well. I am fitting a td05 to my mates auto this week ,but i am fitting a z4 ecu to control the fuelling.The td05 wont spool as quick as the td04 ,but you should find it starts to hit boost around 3000- 3400 rpm and holds it for a lot longer improving the mid range quite considerably. 4500 rpm is way to late for the boost to coming in on a td05 :freak3:, if you had a vf 22 fitted then maybe but not on a td05.

Regarding what to pay : they are not as desirable as the manuals but can can still dash from 0 -62 mph in 6.9 seconds and are generally cheaper than there manal counterparts the one below cost £1500 with 72K miles on and was a 1995 with aircon.The one i am fitting the turbo to, is also a 1995 wrx in mica blue tottally std with 100,000 kilometers (62K)and that cost £1300:thumb:http://i782.photobucket.com/albums/y...Vhqnfb_3-1.jpg
