Subframe Bushes
I am getting a clonking going round slow corners and my existing rear subframe bushes are looking rather worst for wear - they were pointed out in my MOT last year and it is nearly that time of year again so thought I'd best get my finger out and I've bought some subframe bushes for my My99 UK Turbo
Items (5) and (6) in this picture: https://www.scoobynet.com/album.php?...ictureid=12743 Does anyone have any tips for changing them? Could I leave the rear diff and the suspension arms attached to the subframe while I loosen off the 4 main subframe bolts and lower the whole lot down one side at a time on a jack and slip in the new ones? It sounds simple when I put it like that - but I'm expecting a few more hurdles along the way! How easy are the old bushes to remove? Thanks! |
mine were impossible to get out had to remove the whole thing and press em out.

I gave it a go this afternoon - And as suspected the old bushes didn't just slide out!
I've managed to get the diff off the car and 3 out of the 4 lateral links unbolted at the subframe end - leaving the 4th soaking in some plusgas overnight and will try again tomorrow. This stubborn one has already turned one of me breaker bars into a broken bar :( |
Once off m8 just burn out cut steel and they will fall out
only prob you have its a massive job and not easy. Can pick a cheap set up on eBay or better still buy one put your new nylon or std rubbers in and when it comes to the swap it don`t take as long |

All done now! Couldn't bring myself to finish putting exhaust on yesterday (wanted to watch the F1 in the evening), so finished it off this evening and everything seems great on the test drive!
If anyone else is planning it - it took me two full afternoons and managed the whole job by myself (having my 4 year old 'help' doesn't really count!) - I'm sure other people with less seized cars could get it done quicker, but I was pleased enough with my pace :) I feel far more prepared to tackle the rest of the suspension with PU bushes - just need the cash and the time!! Thanks for advise/tips! |
hi mate
where did you buy them from? cheers |
ebay; from flo-flex. Here is one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Subaru-Impreza...-/280368823542 Some did come along as an auction, so I got mine for £25+P&P They have a website http://www.floflex.co.uk/index.php?cPath=27_38 but don't have the subframe bushes on there. They fitted the subframe really well - snug, but didn't need any serious pressing in. They have cured some knocks at the back and did seem a bit tighter (but this could have been me looking for a difference after spending most of my weekend under the car!). I would recommend them - and if you have a decent selection of breaker bars it is quite possible to diy on your drive. If I were to get other suspension bushes I'd be tempted to go with a more well know brand such a superpro, but no one else seemed to do these particular bushes so thought I'd give them a try. Also my car is a '99 UK turbo and I got the 33mm ones |
