How do you propose the country does this?

Martin2005 08 October 2010 10:38 PM

1. Ban any newspaper that prints an opinion rather than the news

2. Reform voting system so that it properly reflects the will of the people

3. Have a vote on EU membership, at least that way we can move on from that interminable debate

4. Reform public services for the benefit of the public rather than those employed in the public services

5. No replacement for Trident... why spend billions on something we surely could never ever use

JTaylor 08 October 2010 10:41 PM

Wasn't this idea tested in 1939?

Cannot recall what the ultimate outcome was though.

1. One rate of tax for all - and everyone pays - no loopholes

2. Immigration amnesty - get them all into the system and being taxed for the wealth they create

3. Stronger commitment to Europe so we play a role on a par with Germany and France

4. Better voting system so the politics of the country truly represents the people

5. Creation of an elected Senate instead of the House of Lords and the end to the succession of power of the aristocracy

tony de wonderful 09 October 2010 10:06 AM

I'd like a written constitution so civil liberties are protected from things like ANPR and internment w/out trial.

I'd like us out of Europe.

I'd like a hard currency.

I'd like a serious rethink on immigration with preference to english speakers from Euro or western countries, and a cap on absolute population levels.

I'd like us to not recognise the Hague war crimes court.

I'd like us to opt out of UN commitments to asylum seekers.

Existing asylum seekers have 12 months to prove they are genuine or get kicked out.

What is wrong with telling them that we are fed up with their corruption and their ambitions to federate all those countries into a repressed state with no true democracy and that we wish to run our own country as we wish ourselves instead of having to take their orders?

We only need to say that we are happy to trade with them as indeed Norway does but that we want to leave and go our own way.

Do you think that they would attempt an invasion as they considered all those years ago, but were beaten to it?

Les

Have you hung your sandals up and retired from the Lentil Munching Lefty Party? I actually agree with all those points and its not the first time recently i've found myself agreeing with you.

It's either that or i'm becoming a lefty? :D

mamoon2 09 October 2010 10:07 PM

Create an industry this country can rely on for future generations. (not based on finance)

zip106 09 October 2010 10:49 PM

I only have ONE thing this Government should do -

1. Listen to NSR and implement everything we say.

(except TDW, who speaks a different language. I think it's called bollocks.)

Banning the publication of opinion is pure Stalinism.

ScoobyDoo555 10 October 2010 10:24 AM

and the problem with that is?

1. remove voting privileges for stupid people - especially if they have a detrimental affect on the rest of society.

2. Make all benefits-claimants justifiable for their actions. REAL proof of disabilities etc should be provided, otherwise, give em the jobs that our immigrants (both legal and otherwise) do.

Bring back socially/financially-tiered society. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY (because of the above point - TOUGH. Work your way out of it)

3. Citizenship for all illegal immigrants. They can then build their own town..... called "Foreigner-ville"..... and be taxed up the ar$e like the rest of of.

4. Pay-per-use resources. Taxing will be fairer - you use, you pay for it.

5. Bring back harsher (physical) penalties for breaking the law - enlistment in National service etc. Reciprocal punishment - death etc

5a The Queen (not the rest of immediate family) - should have more say. She seems like she has the balls to kick a$$. Let's give her the power to do so. After all, it seems to work in Merlin ;) :P

1. Yes, but how? Half of NSR wouldn't be able to vote!
2. Yep :)
3. Best way forward, they're here so make them pay taxes like the rest of us.
4. On what exactly - NHS? na, come on...........
5. National Service should be compulsory anyway.
5a. Why? Did you vote for her?

1. Taxation starting as soon as you earn. Agreed.
2. Yes
3. Yes, or get the f**k out :)
4. The way it should be.
5. Yes, get rid of the old farts.

1. No, as has already been said. Are you a fascist?
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.
5. No way! It's worked for us until now, we need something as a deterrent, what with the downsizing of the armed forces.

gpssti4 10 October 2010 11:04 AM

My five then.

1. Taxation starting as soon as you earn, no thresholds. Need to do the figures more, but for starters: 1% as soon as you start earning, then 2% at £5k, 3% at £6k, 4% at £7K etc - or maybe a sliding scale, but no sudden increase at £40k or so. To a maximum of £50%

2. Illegal immigrants -grant visa's and let them prove that they are a benifit to the country, there are sooooo many here anyway working and not paying taxes, give them a (temporary?) right to stay - but not citizenship, that they need to work for and apply for once they've proved themselves.

3. Harsher, but sensible punishments; no penalising motorists for instance. But, cracking down on repeat offenders of real crime - bang them up for 10 years minimum. Give the police real powers to do real - old school - policing, such as a clip on the ear for kids misbehaving.

4. Reinstate national service, this would give young people a sense of identity and also educate them in the ways of the world.

5. Remove speed limits on motorways :)
