HEADGASKET THICKNESS
Does anyone know the thickness of the headgaskets on a 1997 WRX Import? Think mine has started to go:(
Seen 0.55mm and 1.6mm. |
Anyone?

Impossible to say beforehand mate, as maybe the block and/or heads need decking.
This will affect the gasket you would need to use. Just mounting another stock thickness gasket (the thickness of which i do not know, sorry)without at least having a look at the heads and deck (see if they are still plane/true is throwing money away tbh, as HG problems will almost surely return. |
They have graphite composite gaskets fitted to the 1997 WRX and are 1.48mm compressed thickness IIRC.
A good upgrade for the composite gaskets are the STi Version 3~4 MLS head gaskets (11044AA463) which are 1.60mm thick and are more durable than the composite gaskets, assuming standard deck height and combustion chamber vols on your engine. Mick |
yes around 1.5ish mate.
|
As DSL says above, the different thicknesses are to make allowances for having had the heads/blocks skimmed and to therefore keep the compression ratio the same.

So i need to get the heads off and check 1st then before i buy the gaskets?
Soory for my ignorance. |
