That's astonishing. They all look like high-end cars with high-end price tags to me. Is there really a big enough customer base out there for them? I certainly hope so, but just imagine all the development and tooling costs: how can they fund it without compromising on the quality that customers paying that sort of money expect? You can forgive a few indiscretions on a 20-odd-K Elise, but not on those beauties.

Anyway I wish them well and applaud their determination. :thumb:

The haven't launched anything Trout just released CGI's and engine specs.

Luminous 01 October 2010 09:35 AM

I'll eat my own hair cooked into an omlette if they make all of those on time, on budget and on spec.

I just don't get why they are trying to launch so many models all at once, especially as they all look similar. Who is going to want to pay for the most expensive model when it looks like the base model. They will suffer the same sort of stigma that a Boxster to a 911 does.

Luminous - you don't happen to build MTB lights by any chance?!

If I want a Porsche I'll buy a Porsche.

Lotus were supposed to be about trimming weight and being sporty not competing with lamborghini.

theres the problem people think that they should keep quiet and not try to better thereselves. just because the porsche may have a bigger price tag and be a bigger company does not mean that there car is any better than a smaller produced uk car.

I agree, but Lotus have a niche of sorts and trying to 'outgrow' that may just be the hubris of its CEO.

In the scheme of things Porsche is a very low volume producer! The 911 is 20-30,000 units worldwide.

But that is a moot point. Lotus is not about sticking one up Porsche they are completely different cars. Indeed on many circuits a well drive Exige would should most 911s, Boxsters and Caymans the way home. And Lotus beat Porsche to 2nd place in last years evo COTY.

The cars are simply very different and no harm because of it. I do like the lightness of Lotii but ultimately the 911 is more solid and has more charms than the Elise, to my taste.

And if you like Lotus so much then why worry about what Porsche or Lamborghini might think?
