headers slip joints

Just fitted some headers and upipe to my car and have to say very very happy with them http://www.scoobycity.co.uk/phpBB2/i...on_mrgreen.gif But I do have one problem. They seem to be blowing at the slip at one of the joints enough to tell there blowing. Has anyone had this happen before. Reading up other threads the perrin slip joints suffer from this and perrin supply a clamp This sounds right.

Iv ordered some more hear wrap so I can undo the current wrap covering the area to have a look. Do you reckon a couple of good jubiliie clamps will do the trick. has anyone welded these Or will that cause them to crack. any help would be great

i just put some exhaust paste on them before assembly mate as the paste is on the out side of the slip up pipe then it can't get inside and get to the turbo so can't do no harm:thumb:

wow must be a fair blow then mate,if your going to clamp id put some slits in the pipe so it can crush up abit,be careful not to cut back to far though, only other option is to weld them but they would need to be welded on the car so you get the size right as its to late once welded and they don't slip up the manifold studs lol

well its seems the blow is from a cap on one of the joints and paste just geos after and hard driving. I was thinking on welding them would I have any issues of them cracking.

Wheres the best place to get some clamps from will decent bolt up hose clips do the trick.

Jubilee clips will have absolutely no effect on a slip joint if the stainless steel is of reasonable thickness.
I guess an exhaust clamp might help but the problem is obviously that the slip joint has not been made properly in the first place.
It is quite normal for a slip joint to chuff when started from cold but as the exhaust warms that should stop fairly quickly.
Have a word with your supplier because properly made slip joints are reliable.
