Sell or break??......V4 type R with great spec

Been thinking about selling my type R for the past year or so now but need as much back for it as i can.
Just testing the water at the mo.
The car stands me in about 14/15k now and i know i'll get no where near that if i sell it as a whole so am seriously considering breaking it.
This decision has not come easily but i need to free up some cash for other commitments so the scooby is gonna have to go. Gonna break my heart to do this as its the best car ive ever had by far and ive enjoyed every minute of it,apart from the engine rebuild lol.

Hardest part for me is pricing parts up as i am unsure what things are worth but will do my best so dont bite my arm off if i overprice some parts!

Will put a brief spec up and would like to know what ppl have broken their cars for with similar specs.....really just want to know if its worth breaking!!

Will post a decent description in for sale section when ive paid for my membership later today hopefully.

Fully rebuilt engine and gearbox by Api at a cost of £5222...bill to prove.
Rebuild includes steel rods, forged pistons, lightened flywheel, exedy organic clutch, ported manifolds,ACL bearings.....engine has only done around 6/7k after rebuild.....1500 miles of that was running in with no actuator and was ran in by the book by me.Always ran on millers cfs and changed every 2/3k and fully live mapped by Bob Rawle.Very strong engine and very fast for the spec...only running VF24 but Bob commented on how good it felt considering what turbo it had.

Gearbox was a full rebuild too at cost of £750 plus vat...also has the V-limited taller 5th gear for lower revs at motorway speeds.

18" Oz Prodrive Alloys in Gold with Vred Ultrac Sessantas..only 1500 miles on tyres

Morrette Headlights-Colour Coded. Centre lights removed for better cooling!

Factory Subaru Electric Sunroof.

Defi 52mm Gauges in Nitrosport 3 Gauge Carbon Pod.
(Oil Temp, Oil Pressure and Boost).

Custom Pack Prodrive Electric Recaros: Heated, Cooled and Electric Adjustment....£998 each from new, receipt to prove.

Full Prodrive Floor mat set- Front, Rears & Boot.

Standard JDM air con and climate control, etc.

AP 4 Pots Brakes and 308mm Discs with Alloy Bells fitted with Mintex Pads.

New Rear Discs with Green Stuff Pads.

Racing Fluid and Goodridge Metal Brake Pipes.

Whiteline Drop Links and Uprated Roll Bar Bushes.

Whiteline Anti Lift Kit.

Whiteline adjustable rear ARB.

Prodrive Geometry by Powerstation and abbey motorsport

BC racing coilovers ...only seen about 2500 miles

Red Top Engine.

Link UK Map mapped by Bob Rawle

Uprated Oil Pump.

Link ECU, no octane booster needed.

3port Boost Solenoid.

(Much) Larger APS Top Mounted Intercooler.

Blitz Induction Filter.

HKS SSQV dump valve

Walbro Uprated Pump and Regulator

Scoop Venting Turbo Heat Shield.

Scooby Sport GPA Downpipe.

Scooby Sport Decat Centre.

4.5" Jap Spec Rear Box.

Lots more too but will list it all in the for sale section .

Not another well specd car getting stripped on bits, hate seeing it happen but fully understand why.

I would like to think you would bet 10k back in bits but you will have to be patient and hold out for it all to sell, which could take months also can you remove the parts yourself as if not factor in the labour fees.

Good luck with it all, if you need a quick sale it might be worth trying to sell it first for a decent figure first

Ricerocket0_1 12 September 2010 11:58 AM

Sadly in the current market you will get more for it in bits then trying to sell it complete! I refuse to give mine away, so I now use as an every day car piling on the mileage. I'll run mine in to the ground before giving it away. I know things are tuff, try and hang on until things pick up. In years to come I think you will regret breaking her. However if cash needed.....you got to do what's necessary. A difficult one, good luck. :(

lammylama 12 September 2010 11:59 AM

I was thinking of trying to sell first but really cant be bothered with tyre kickers offering me silly money for it.....it has a few bubbles of rust on one arch so im expecting ppl to try knock me for that.

Wouldnt know what to price it at really with the spec.

Not too bothered about waiting for the cash from breaking it either, just want the best return on it but like i said,im truly gutted to even have to sell her but needs must and all that!

Wifes car is getting old now and starting to have issues so really need to replace it with something better and considering i dont use the scooby a great deal now just seemed the sensible thing to do.... I THINK :(

lammylama 12 September 2010 12:02 PM

Thanks Rice....im breaking it for the exact same reason as you,no way im giving it away.....thats why its taken me a year to do it,everytime i drive it i change my mind but needs must now so gonna have to be strong i guess and get the spanners out

G-string 12 September 2010 12:20 PM

wow gutted for you mate, such a sorted car with some great bits love the wheels and seats and very rare to have a sunroof. Hope you get what you want for the bits

Ricerocket0_1 12 September 2010 12:32 PM

We all like to spend money on mod's, unfortunately it does not make the car worth any more. In some cases more desirable may be, but for the proper enthusiast.....it needs to be standard and mint. Can't bloody win can we

i hate seeing this too, i couldnt do it ,i would drive it into the ground before i thort of selling anything......your looking around 8-10k ,mark on selling those bits... surely you could get close ish to 8k for the whole car if the right person wants it. its a stuning example of a type R and if i wernt building are extention i would seriously have a look but coz of this faking extention am flat on my arse cash wize(*******).....if you do decide to break the poor old girl make note of my name "TURBOADDICT" AND IF YOU WOULDNT MIND P.M ME WHEN HER TIME HAS COME as i will be very intrested in some goodys you have.. cheers fella

i just cant get enough:norty:

Toomanycars 12 September 2010 05:08 PM

I would have to say break it mate............but thats mainly because i can see quite a few upgrades i would want to buy from you to put on mine :thumb:.

stevie1982 12 September 2010 05:39 PM

Never have I seen a type r with a sunroof!!!

As said 8-10 in bits but you may well get near on 8k for the car as is, now is it worth all the ball ache with breaking it and IMO getting just the same amount of messers if not more on single parts rather then the whole car.

Might be worth trying it up at 8-8.5k as is and taking an offer

Choice is yours mate but best of luck with it

Steve

Front bumper is version 5 proper subaru item, not a cheap copy....have the receipt for it and was not cheap.

Will let you know when its up for grabs!

Dspeed 12 September 2010 09:48 PM

Anti lift kit and top mount if you do break her bud?

Any under the bay shots?

Aztec Performance Ltd 12 September 2010 11:52 PM

If it's running well I would put it up for £8k, that's probably what it is worth in bits, just a lot less hassle.

Breaking mine at the moment if you want an idea on pricing parts: https://www.scoobynet.com/private-fo...available.html

I'd take the box off your hands along with the clutch and flywheel.

Joel

joey_turbo 13 September 2010 01:38 PM

Yeah its a shame to break any of the 2 doors. As they are always going to be that little bit more special.
If you can't sell it for how you want, start putting it back to standard. You'll make some money back on the parts, and you might not mind taking that little bit less.

Good luck either way.

lammylama 15 September 2010 10:06 PM

ok.....looks like this is gonna be broken for defo now,ive finally made my mind up after a lot of thinking so probably start taking it apart in a couple of weeks or so.
To be honest id rather get a buyer for engine and box before i get the tools out just so the buyers can here them running before they commit to buying.
In the mean time anyone is welcome to call David at Api with my reg number and im sure he will be more than happy to verify the spec and the Bob Rawle mapping session.
I do have the original receipts from David but its extra piece of mind for anyone whos interested in the engine/box.
I will get it up in the for sale sections as soon as i get the chance and parts will be going on a 1st come first served basis...no reserving for weeks etc.
I do have a full time job so car will come apart bit by bit over the weekends so please bear with me.

Will post back on here when the time comes so keep your eyes open lads.

Dspeed 16 September 2010 12:17 PM

Will the shell be available when ur done mate? Im after a 3 door I can bare shell respray and put the rest of my car into it.

Terminator X 16 September 2010 12:49 PM

I can't believe that breaking a car realizes more than selling as is :wonder: you'll never recover the labour cost for fitting the stuff in the first place or indeed removing it as you break it. People wont pay full whack for used parts either so it seems diminishing returns to me ...

TX.
