Latest work to the "car full of scaffolding" (STI6 RA)

Well, not done a massive amount over the past months.
However, did get her back on the road after spending a few months in the garage, needing an MOT.
I carried out some modifications to the electrics, moving the fog light switch over to the centre console with those "top gun" fighter pilot switches!
Also moved the horn from a nasty push switch above the fues box to its correct location on the Sparco steering wheel, using the two small push switches that came with the wheel. Used a modified mobile phone charger cable and a nice 4 pin plug and socket from Maplin to allow the cable to be disconnected easily.

Got the Prodrive co pilot foot rest fixed in. Makes life better for passengers as they have somewhere to park their feet.

Also set the drivers seat at its lowest and furthest back position. Transformed the driving position and made it much more comfortable on longer drives.

Cosmeticaly, all thats been done is some Roger Clark Motorsport additions.
Sun strip, and a few badges on the wings and boot lid.

I have bought a fair bit of stuff from Olly over the past while and their service has been amazing. Picking up the phone in the afternoon, needing parts for the next day which arrive with no trouble. Cant express my gratitude enough.
Special thanks to Tom in the parts dept and Olly for his advice.

I guess the biggest change would be the addition of the Simtek ECU, fitted and mapped by Andy Forrest.

Before having Andy do the work, I changed a few areas to make it a little more worth while.
I wanted to retain the standard injectors, turbo and intercooler for now.
The car already had the RCM Team ICE centre and rear section, so full 3" from the downpipe back. I only needed the 3" downpipe from Olly to comlete the system. I fitted this with some of their high spec exhaust wrap, started the car up and almost went deaf!!
Right back on the phone to Olly in order to get one of their silenced RCM back boxes sent up. Once fitted it was a sigh of relief to have the car more sociable!!

As I wanted to convert the fuel rails to "parralell", I had to get the rail adaptor from Carl Davey, allowign me to remove the regulator from the standard set up. I then fitted an SX regulator from RCM and bought fittings and hose from my local engineering company, which i still have to modify slightly to improve the routing of the hoses.
When i had the inlet manifold off, I noticed a lot of oil had been blown into the intercooler and manifold.
I decided to fit a catch can. Once again, Tom at RCM helped me out there. Supplying the neat little catch can and hose/joiners to fit it nice and snug on the N/S chassis leg. Fitted easily with three stainless self tapping screws. Had to remove the starter to gain access with the drill, that was as difficult as it got.

With having removed the breather returns from the inlet pipe/hose to the turbo and also knowing that I was fitting the Simtek, therefore, not needing to return the DV back to the inlet either, I decided to source a new inlet hose that had no additional ports on it.
RCM got me a Grp n hose that is much bigger than the factory one and has no ports at all.

I also got them to send me a nice Samco hose, trumpet and cone filter.

Along with a load of gaskets and hoses from RCM, catch can, exhaust, filter, induction hose, fule regulator, service items, etc etc, I was most grateful for the technical help I got from the guys.
Andy Forrest was spot on with the mapping of the car and to say that he has transformed the car would be an under statement.
I added the ALS and Launch options which thought might just be a "gimik", however, the ALS has eliminated a dead spot in second when carrying out hairpin/handbrake turns. The launch control is harsh but effective to say the least.

The future for the car is uncertain as i am looking at fitting a Custom cages to another shell in preperation for some forrest use.
I might return the car to standard spec and use some fo the parts from this one to build the forrest car>
However, that will be into next year.
for the comign weeks I need to fabricate an airbox to section off that massive filter from the heat of the engine bay. Improve the heat control on the turbo by fitting a jacket and additional wrap to the downpipe.
Thermal spacers from Carl Davey for the inlet manifold and header tank will see an improvement in induction temps too.
Andy has suggested changing to the STI 8 TMIC/20G and bigger injectors to reach the 400 mark. However, no rush as Im happy with the set up at present.
I will collect the parts as I go on through the year and have him over for another mapping session I guess.

I will post up any developments as they happen.

In the mean time, enjoy the piccys and Im sorry about the spelling as it was done in a hurry!!

I will add some piccys of the fuel runs and the hoses fitted to the catch can later. Also some piccys of the new back box.

Thanks again to Olly and Tom at RCM and Andy Forrest for their service.

Thanks to my neighbours for not complaining at having to take numerous deliveries when i was out and ignoring the noises from the garage in the evenings!

Cheers

Jamie

Adam,

No sound clips Im afraid.
However, trust me when i say, its too loud. Didnt sound nice and would never have been allowed on track days.

Olly suggested fitting the centre section to shut it up, but as he was out of stock, I took the BBox which shut her up even more. Dont get me wrong, still loud though. Just meant that it took away the harshness that running a full 3" straight pipe from the turbo back has.

Not a cheap system, but great fit and quality.
