Big end failure -a question ...
Hi guys
If a car has had a big end failure once is it likely to happen again ? |
Surely you would need to know the cause of the failure before answering this question.
So why did they fail??? |
As above.
My understanding is that DET is often blamed for big end failure, so if the cause of that wasn't identified and persists after the rebuild then it's only a matter of time before you have to put your hand in your pocket again! |

But why would it be any MORE likely to happen again? Especially if the car was rebuilt stronger, better bearings etc and remapped accordingly?
|
Sorry for the late response on this one guys
Not sure what caused initial failure , dealer kept saying the oil must have run low but this wasnt the case when I had it,unless it had happened whilst the previous owner had it and the damage didnt rear its ugly head until after I had bought the car Car was rebuilt by a highly recommended independent specialist and has had very regular oil changes since The reason I asked is that I have had an offer for the car but I am reluctant to let it go as I have done a lot of mods with the car audio wise Id prefer to keep it but Im also thinking what if the big end goes again ..... Decisions decisions lol |
If we all thought the worst was going to happen in our lives we'd never get out of bed in the morning.
If the build is done correctly with the correct parts, including a new modine cooler, there's no greater risk of it happening again. Use a respected build company with positive customer feedback & you should'nt go wrong. |
