AUDI S3 FAST?

Hiya,
Had a little run in with an Audi S3 thrashed to an inch of its life... with smoke coming out of the back every gear change... with a complete idiot of a driver cutting evryone up... I was suprised by its handling and power though? I didn't think they were all that ?
Apparently four wheel drive and easy to upgrade power ?
Nice enough cars I suppose, better interiors maybe? 'Slightly lacking character in my opinion' I like them classic scoobies...

A nice police police man once advised me, if you ur gonna drive like a complete arse do it in the national speed limits not the 30s....

I'm looking forward to upgrading 300bhp+ and following his kind advice...:hjtwofing

They have a 4wd system similair to honda, it goes into full 4wd when it senses slip or a specific speed. The engines are superb, piss all over the impreza flat four for reliability. But the handling is far from the best and gearboxes are pants. Bit of a scooby/Evo wannabe, but will never be. Oh and HORRENDOUSLY expensive when things go tits up

greatgonzo 05 September 2010 06:39 PM

I have heard a lot of bad things lately regarding Audi reliability  I always thought they where bullet proof.

Suberman 05 September 2010 06:53 PM

They aren't all that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sowNOfZcKTQ :D

RS4 may be a different story though. :lol1:

I friend of mine had a RS4 and that thing was nothing but trouble, In the end it dropped one of its pistons and he had almighty hassle with Audi trying to get it fixed :(

was a passenger today in a gtr. fook me, now they are quick! made my impreza feel like a bus.

wrx9181 05 September 2010 08:17 PM

nice cars i think ....

olliecampbell 05 September 2010 08:54 PM

There was a lovely white one flying round Trax today....not the same as a Scoob though.

Mus 05 September 2010 09:36 PM

has an s3 a few years back milltek recirculating dump valve panel filter and revo remap. very slow compared to the scoob more comfortable though.

gear changes are are rubbish on the audi gears are too far apart

Martin 2010 05 September 2010 11:24 PM

for handeling etc they are crap i played with 2 of these in my civic type r and they couldnt get away from it at all if i had more room i would of got past, 1st time i thought that it might be down to driver error but then after playin with a few other ones realised that they just aint all that unless you got $$$$$$$$ to spend on one.

the throw from 2nd to 3rd I thought was the worst offense of the gearbox.

Assuming it's a MK1 S3; I had a TT which is essentially the same running gear in a different shell. The engines are bombproof up to 330 bhp after that you need to upgrade the internals.

Getting to 265-280 is easy, cat back, induction, remap, J-Valve and you'll hit 265-270 but some do hit the 280's

Once you want more it's hybrid turbo time and to get to the 330 it's big turbo time and if memory serves me right it's a £4500 all in job. There was a guy on the TT forum who was up to 450 ish I think but he had spent an insane amount of money.

I traded it in as my torque convertor went and it was going to be £1750 plus VAT plus fitting........

The newer ones with the 2.0 TSi engines can be mapped to 305 cheaply and I'm sure Star Performance were offering a program to take it to 330 for £100 more.

They handle pretty well and the haldex 4 wheel drive controller works pretty well. You can upgrade that as well to a more aggressive one for around £500. I'd say in standard form or mildly mapped they might keep up with an Impreza depending on model etc. However I think where they struggle is to get the bigger numbers for sensible money and if one came up against a modified Scooby it'd be toast.

I thought the MK1 S3's were 3.2 N/A :wonder:

Had a play with one of the new ones and there was nothing in it at all. ;)

Nope, they came with a 1.8 20v Turbo kicking out 225 bhp. You can get a 3.2 Quattro though, but I'm not sure if that's exclusive to the new shape?

SPEN555 06 September 2010 08:18 AM

Wait for the RS3 :D

They did it in the old shape too. Slightly higher hp than the 225.

have to say i do like s3's, but god i hate it when folks have front mounts fitted like that, they look daft, just wait till a stone puts a nice round hole in the core lol

gallois 06 September 2010 01:06 PM

by kid bro had a 225 TT, beautifully built car, but heavy, numb handling and slow, needed to be half a ton lighter.

2nd to 3rd reminds me of a transit van :)

I think they came at 1.8 210bhp the earlier
then 225bhp then it was 2 liter 195bhp then265bhp after 2005.

wylie1 08 September 2010 12:39 PM

theres an audi s3 in blackpool with nearly 500bhp striped out with cage etc oh my god that thing can shift
