But in short...

The VF 30 is a fairly new IHI model that utilizes the exhaust housing of a VF24 and the compressor housing sized between a VF 23 and a VF 22. It comes on boost down low (around the 3000 rpm range). With upgraded injectors, fuel pump, and engine management, the VF 30 is good for 365-390 horsepower. It is important to note that the VF30 is NOT a roller bearing turbo.

The IHI VF34 (which comes standard in the Japanese market STi version "RA") is a new roller bearing turbo. It has the same specifications (compressor size, etc.) as the VF 30. The difference lies in the roller bearing which, theoretically, allows quicker spool and better response. It costs a couple hundres more than a VF 30. The VF 34 maxes out around 365-390 hp. It is probably the most popular option for big turbos on the WRX.

Hi Steve If you are after maximum power on a dyno and the ultimate kick in the pants when the turbo kicks in, the VF30 is for you. It is a turbo which is capable of producing greater boost pressures and sustaining them to higher RPMs where the stock tubo runs out of puff, but produces more lag at low RPM which actually makes the car feel less powerful than standard at lower RPM (up to 3000RPM ish)
The VF34 is a good comprimise and is still capable of holding boost pressures to higher RPM than the standard TD04 turbo, but will spool up quickly. It will still be slightly more laggy than the TD04 but not really all that noticeable.
Essentially, if you are after after a turbo which will give you you maximum power on a dyno or if you always drive at high RPM on boost. Go with the VF30.
If you spend a lot of time in traffic and want something which is smooth to drive, go with the VF34.
And about comparison of two turbos is VF30 its similar to VF22,VF24,but without the lag which its main factor on VF22.I personally go TD05-18G :-)
And simply here is something about the VF30:
The VF30 is commonly considered the best bang for the buck turbo in the IHI VF series line. A relatively new model the VF30 features the same exhaust housing as the VF24 but a larger compressor side similar to the VF22. The combination of these two parts results in increased output potential without the lag associated with the VF22. Although it doesn't offer the top end supremacy of the VF22, the VF30 is a great compromise between these unit and the quicker spooling models.

Agree 100%. VF34 over a VF35 all day long.

Not much with the two but the VF34 is better for the WRX engine. The turbos just want to keep going unlike the "Surging VF35" that runs out of puff top end.

VF34/VF35 should be between £250-£300 depending on age and condition

The 34 is a good unit, and definately better overall than a 35.

They alway seem to be a bit more pricey than a 35 though.
