For the past week or so I've been looking at getting a pocket pc.
The PDA's that have caught my eye are from the Compaq Ipaq range which can be seen here: http://www.compaq.co.uk/products/ipa...tpc/matrix.stm

I'd like it if I could connect it up to my phone (a Nokia 6310), possibly using Bluetooth but I baulk at paying close on £600, in this instance on a H3870 http://www.compaq.co.uk/products/ipa...3870/index.stm

If anybody has a PDA can you please give me your thoughts on how useful you've found it to be.

Also if you know where there is a good deal on an Ipaq please let me know! :) (I'm looking at paying no more than £350).

ive got an ipaq... and its the biggest waste of money ever... my style just doesnt suit using it.... in meetings I prefer to use my a5 diary (day per page) and for notes I have an a4 book (notepad with covers) and I find these far more usefull...

Its ok for playing games when you are hiding in the bog with a hangover though....

If you can wait a month or so till they are widely available, get a Fujitsu Siemens PocketLOOX. A truly amazing machine.

Had an iPAQ 3630 now got a 3870 with bluetooth 6210, superb, use it every day for calendar, email, web, contacts, notes etc.

Still got my iPAQ 3630, it is a great piece of kit that didn't nearly as fast the Palm or Psions I had before it. I would be lost without it... memory like a thing with holes...

The 3870 is excellent, especially when used with a bluetooth gprs phone (or wireless lan card!).

Problem is, they're in short supply and no-one that I know of currently has any stock.

I can get them a bit cheaper than expansys, but you're probably looking at a minimum delivery time of a week from any supplier at the moment.

If anyone knows any different, then I'd love to know as I have a couple of customers desperate for them.....

If you're not bothered about the bluetooth (!) then you can save some cash and get a 3850 for about 410 (these are in stock, so you can have one next day).

If you decide you want bluetooth later then you can always add a CF+Bluetooth sleeve for 100 quid.

I'm thinking of buying it for when I'm in lectures - I can stick a note on it and then send it to my computer in my room ready for me to work on it when I get back.
Also, over the next few months I'm going to have a lot of information to remember and I thought that a PDA would help.
As much as I try to justify buying one, it is just another gadget!

I was this close: <------> to buying one in Chester today, but stupidly forgot to take my Switch card with me (I can't trust myself with a credit card :( ).

I like the look of the Ipaq range, not to show off (ok, it's partly that! :)), but simply because they look pretty good.

I'm gonna have a look around, if I can get a good deal then I'll go for it.

I use an iPAQ 3630 - it is excellent in many ways although I have stopped using the activesync program for contacts synchronising as it has no filters. I use Intellisync for contacts and activesync for all else.
I thought I wouldnt need any extra storage space but already use cf disks etc in a cf jacket - so suggest you get the best model you can. I've also just started using a bluetooth cf card in the jacket connecting to my T68 phone - it's excellent as I can access the internet, use Yahoo messenger etc on the train with my phone in my bag.
Overall I'd recommend it, as my main problems have been with Poctet Pc itself and not the iPAQ - and Pocket Pc is the way to go IMHO.

FYI, Tomshardware just posted a review of some PDA's

We have a couple Ipaqs in the office and I use a HP Jornada 568 - fantastic machine with an excellent battery.
