2010/11 Subaru Saloon - NO WRX
Just left my local dealer and he was chatting away about the arrival of the new saloon in a few weeks, couple of points to mention if you can believe him:
There will be no WRX, only base models and the STI in wide body guise, something to do with keeping CO2 emissions low, I imagine the WRX with a wide body would have been a good seller as not everyone wants an STI, yet again subaru shoot themselves in the foot. STI will only come with low level rear spoiler, he was going to pop a high level on his demo STI car but has been told it will invalidate the warranty, not sure if boots are bending on USDM cars. Sorry if SIAL Cheers A |
The low level rear spoiler looks better imho anyway.
The wrx is now too expensive to run as a mid range motor compare to it's rivals.. they will be pushing the Diesel more and more, with the STI making up the cream for the enthusiast. and yes it's sial Arron sorry :D |
Everyone kicked up a fuss when they weren't going to do a WRX hatch, so Subaru gave in and produced one.
The problem is the people who moaned about the WRX being withdrawn didn't buy it anyway and the sales were very poor, so i can understand why Subaru aren't doing it this time round. |
The only reason the WRX (in the newage guise anyway) has lasted this long is because Subaru didn't have a diesel to replace it... now they do.

Subaru lost their way with the Impreza in the UK and they can only blame themselves not the customers. Just sticking a WRX badge on a pig does not a good car make. |

Sales were/are poor because the car is no longer special, it is bland at best, not that fast and not that reliable.

whinging again about the hatch he's starting to get boring
|
Every manufacturer has to get its average emissions down below a certain level (bl00dy Greenies), so Subaru cannot have 2 high CO2 cars in its range. It needs to sell a lot of diseasels and 1.5s to keep the average down.
Ferrari and Lambo can get round this by being owned by Fiat and VAG, but I don't think Subaru can do the same by being partly owned by Toyota. |
